Aston Martin AMR26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Good first tech analysis:
https://www.formulapassion.it/f1/f1-ana ... ca-estrema

Is interesting some old Ferrari ideas. Some Italian magazine talk about Cardile contribution (BTW was Newey that asked for him as AM CTO).

Obviously each new tech member put something that start from projects well studied in past experiences (just take a look at Serra in SF26).

The really "Newey touch" in AMR26 in my opinion is on the study in the distribution of weights (starting from the aerodynamic critical mass of the nose to the rear anchoring of the suspensions) and compared to the other projects seen, a study that - seems - more profound on the upper air flows.

In fact, my impression is that all the others have moved towards the optimization and extremization of the lower flows, while here the reasoning has been practically the opposite.

I'm having the same feeling with this car as with many past RedBull cars. You see them in the pre-season test and can see innovative and aggresive ideas, a lot of details everywhere ... "wow, that looks one step further..." Newey is Newey =D> ...

Does the airbox inlet only seem rather weird to me? Usually it's a rather straight edged triangle. This has a curving bottom line and lot of rounding on the top "corner".

Looks clear it is for aerodynamics purposes but for the position, geometry composition of the rear overall and height I don't see it like a BW but who knows, you can't discard nothing.
As I remember suspension aero covers are not allowed to have a wing profile.

Not sure what the excitement is yet. This car actually reminds me of the X-15 experimental plane. Not because of is color, but the fact that it looks like a test platform to test some fundamental concepts that will be on the actual car. Basically a mule car. If the nose isn't housing some clever system(s), then I expect it to change, along with the sidepod and engine cover geometry. I think that that entire rear bodywork will probably shrink massively on race day or before.

Kinda agree, although with the amount of CFD time and aero expertise this team shouldve had you would expect them to hit the ground running in the aero front at least.

Plenty of rake! And I can’t really figure out the rear suspension…

The floor in front of the rear tyre looks unique too

Interesting to see someone other than Ferrari using a triangular airbox for a change.

Lots of curious details but hard to make sense of them all right now (not helped by the fact seeing is no longer believing in this world of AI)

This undercut is big and the sidepods themselves are very thin, it looks like Aston managed to keep the front tyre wake outboard without using big sidepods. This makes me almost 100% sure that this front wing and the nose are a dummy and the real one will look much different and more complex.

I agree with you. There is something about the front that doesn't seem to match the rest of the car. I also don't see an active front wing. I also have a feeling it's a dummy for this first test.

Re: Aston Martin AMR26

is this a blown wishbone or blown pushrod rear suspension with energy of engine heat?

the body under the sidepods is a lil bit more wide then the sidewalls of the cockpit. or in other words, nearly the same slim. second team with the nose mounted to second part of the front wing. airbox looks extremly compact. guess Newey tries to get as much clean flow as possible to the back, with the fins and sidepods. front wing looks very standard imo for their first shakedown. should look way more complex at first or second test in Bahrain.

very interesting and different concepts of all teams so far. cant wait for the start of the season.
