Place for a 3rd test car?

Post

What place do you have to finish in the constructors to allow you to use a 3rd driver in the practise sessions?

Just thinking it might be worth Ferrari doing as bad as they can in the last races.

Mclaren and renault wont have the advantage next year.

5th or worse. No chance for Ferrari 'cause they finish 3rd or 4th.

When it matters money they'll get if they finish 3rd it is more important than being 5th with 3rd car for 2006.

dont worry about it. with williams helping with the tyre development. bridgestone will close the gap next season. only thing is ferrari still need to get back the aero lost in this years new regulation. they still got abit of catching up to do. i think next year will be even more exciting because toyota seems to be catching up to the leaders and with ferrari back in the picture(i hope) there will be 5-6 teams that can challenge for the wins

The discussion in Brazil is about practice and qualifying for next year with the FIA apparently suggesting to the teams that only the four bottom teams in the World Championship be allowed to run a third car on Fridays. this is not going down well with the middle order teams which have enjoyed the advantage up to now. The current rules allow all but the top four teams to run third cars. The change is unlikely to happen as the teams would need to agree to the change and show no signs of doing so.

Personally i'm in favour of this rule as it is another way of helping the teams further down the grid and closing things up a bit more. Of course you get the odd top team can using it to their advantage as Renault did in '03, B.A.R. did in '04, and as McLaren are doing now.
