Williams FW48

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Going all in on 2026 and not making it to Barcelona only to build a car similar to Alpine is not too promising. Most likely fighting with Alpine for scraps.
I love it!

It seems from the limited photos available that Williams has decided to go with much less of an undercut around the sidepod area... Very different concept from the leading teams.

Agree that front suspension does look very different.

Are they running a camouflage livery? Is that why I can't make out any shapes?

Yeah they ran a fan choice for a camo shakedown testing livery late last year... Seems a bit redundant now that they didn't do the shakedown with everyone else.

Sidepod inlet is lower than the top of the monocoque, but the area behind it rejoins with the shape of the nose. That continuous line is a bit Newey-like.

The side profile is not that different from the livery renders.

The bargeboard design is difficult to see.

On the rear angle shot on page 2 it seems like there is s slot in the barge board under the keeper logo, but otherwise solid.

This car is from 1999, so it's very late indeed.

Why would you bother with that large airbox when you have such large sidepod openings? Makes me wonder if this is not the final sidepod design.

edit- or is that black paint actually, and the sidepod openings are small... can't tell

It almost looks a bit like Mclaren's inlets last year with the wing on the top edge. Edit - I take that back, I looked at some more pictures and it looks like the render...

Love to see a Williams that shares design elements (like the very high top mount of the front suspension) with the Newey design /fanboy
