Ferrari SF-26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Too wide… based on what?

That is quite a significant change, it will also require significant adjustments to the normal tuning methodology.

I wish there were no sponsors, so we could enjoy the beauty more. The handsomest Ferrari in years...

I can’t figure out what I’m seeing here (red arrow) - can someone explain?

Either filling out a legality volume or working with the airbox horns to manipulate/create an additional vortex structure down the engine cover?

I think it is a vortex generator.

Someone actually did it.

Part of the '26 concept must have this in mind, owing to where they chose to place this new, major aero implement. I see it as adding a high pressure field above the front floor corner. If the wake is a problem though, it makes me think we might see teams try to make these things more outwashing by various means f.e. a small forward portion of the bargeboard ("floor board") could be situated in opposition to the majority of it.

I think B-Sport also suggested the same thing since this was a very open area for development. Especially since keeping the front wheel wake from any aerodynamic parts (outwash) is a no brainer.

4 month delta though, and let’s be honest. This forum is one of the big islands in the small pond of online F1 tech punditry. He could have come up with it on his own, although it was oddly specific of him considering mine was the only post about it on the whole of the internet.

And I wouldn't call it a no-brainer. It doesn't seem like the optimal solution to me.

Cheers, although I did present it as "could be done" not "should be done." They're the only team that's chosen this route so far. IMO you want to use the floor board as it's intended--not fight against it. Why I posted the first depiction of horizontal (wing like) floor board elements online back in June, later corroborated by what most teams brought to the Barcelona test. viewtopic.php?p=1293691#p1293691
