2026 car comparisons

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Surely those RB22 pillars will be copied. Two large VGs right under the wing? Seems ideal.
That's a good spot. I didn't notice it initially. Are they treating it as part of the rear wing pillar to legalize it?

Front pushrod, wide spaced arms, big round snorkel, three-element rear wing, low nose, vertical inlets, stalky mirrors, front wing between front tyres, and a certain double-digit integer...

That would be my guess.

The high middle section of the front wing on the RB22 that others have been pointing out is visible there, too. And the high front wing tips of the Alpine are again visible there.

Normal they are trying to make it as short as possible to disrupt the flow as little as possible. But maybe it changed with this low AoA wings.

Haas front wing active aero moves the entire span of the wing instead of just the 2 outboard flaps. Williams, Ferrari, and RBR also look like they move the full span.

Most cars have the rear wing with a long main plan and 2 short flaps. Aston Martin and Audi have a big second element.

Williams and Aston Martin are the rake leaders (most rake), followed closely by Mclaren.

Most of the team already has a lot of outwash. That didn't take long
Thats a lot of unwanted air going into the diffuser area on the Ferrari. Ouch.

One of my 'will never happen' fantasies is seeing how a full on top F1 organization today would design a 1990 F1 car knowing everything they do now and with all the modern resources we have today.

One thing that I don't really understand is the big difference between the teams when it comes to the downforce levels of their wings. I know it's just the test but why do they even bother with lower downforce wings when you hide them at every straight?

The front wings are not exclusively downforce generators. They are also important tools for aero balance and flow conditioning to the floor and rear of the car. So, it's not always the case that you want the largest possible front wing.

I'm unsure if it's a difference of perspective, but Red Bull seems to have a larger exhaust pipe and it is also positioned much higher above the impact structure than the others (Mercedes, Ferrari).

Also note the 4 channel rear brake duct exit of the Mclaren. It is much more complex than the other 3 teams.

Could also be a balance thing. If you generate a lot of downforce at the rear you can balance it with higher downforce at the front.
