Aston Martin AMR26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I wonder why they have thermometer stickers there. In the pits they can hardly be of much use, and while moving they would need a camera pointing at it, which would be more useful if it was a thermal camera in the first place.

The strips change colour at certain temps and then stay that way, so they measure peak temperature and can be read at the end of the day.

Concerning the front wing, I had a hard time to believe it was moving, because all the elements are connected together.
But now, thinking it's an Adrian Newey car, I wonder if they're simply not just flexing the last element.
He has quite some experience on flexing wings s far as I can remember. 😉
And they could do this to avoid the weight of the pivots.

I googled it now, and apparently they are stickers that show the maximum temperature, and stays on that value. Images from previous tests show them on brake calipers etc. I guess they want to make sure the carbon fiber doesn't get to hot there.

this car needs a cooling system rethinking, reminds me of the 2022 Aston car had the same double floor extreme undercut sidepods but switch to the other types later in the season

Very cool photos, thanks! I saw earlier those parts of the pillar, wondered if they hide some adjustments.
Now it looks like they might set the length of that pillar? Is that for tuning the main plate of the wing, or something else?

Ah, I thought only ones that show the current temperature existed.

Isn't that just how they're mounted?

Do you mean the metallic / golden thing? That should be the hydraulic line for the DRS actuator

I'm pretty sure an F1 team can figure out how to put a hinge on a wing stay.

Unfortunately I'm getting F92A vibes from this undercut; it is almost like Migeot's double floor concept.
