Yikes :( A Spanish F1 streamer (Nachez98) says a source close the AM team has informed him that the gearbox has a) cavitation issues: leading to heating & lubrication problems (oil issue?); b) flexing issues that is affecting the rear suspension + geometry issues and c) that microcracks have been found in the gearbox case. Massive grain of salt, but SoyMotor informed some weeks ago that Aston was having major issues with the new gearbox. I guess we'll know more soon enough.
nachez has pretty close ties with somebody at aston it seems like. he reports pretty much every day. and was talking about gearbox problems previously. maybe he got more details from his source.

I'm not sure they have problems as much as they have work to do, they're just behind. I think.

We should have a clearer picture on AMR this week after the testing...
If the issue is related only due to the Gearbox, i assume it should be a quick fix, since the Gearbox is supplied by third-party and only the casing to be manufactured by AMR.
Furthermore, we are yet to get clear idea on the fuel, if any manufacturer had used sustainable fuels for the testing, FIA has exempted the teams on using the same for the tests...

Nonsense aston make their own gearbox including suspension elements. These are the parts they used to buy from mercedes.

I don't think the new regulations will last long. Unless a miracle happens and the races become exciting, which I doubt.

I think a return to engines powered by biofuels would be the right thing to do.
E-fuels are already a step forward (Ferrari uses biofuel), but we cannot go back to the era with aspirated engines, since F1 is a showcase of reality and today's cars are going towards a hybrid-electric change and then becoming fully electric, so much so that Honda itself declared that without the electric part it would not return to F1.

we cant go to a series in which the top drivers dont matter anymore. hondas always had one foot in and one foot out of the sport, thats part of the reason things are as they are atm.

they wont do away with batteries all together, but they wont be going to full electric anytime soon either. i see a v8 turbo on efuels sooner rather than later. especially if these new power units make it into a push to pass only series.the cars batteries are dead half way down the straights right now. they are going to spend more time taking care of their battery than they do with tires, until the engineers tell them exactly how to drive each lap to finish the race quickest.

imagine a race where lance stroll (ikr!!) passes 5 cars on the opening 3 turns, only to be passed by 10 on the first long straight because he couldnt charge the batteries while making the passes. its more likely they wont attempt it because they know the outcome. could just end up being a huge snore-fest.

the first couple of races should be cool to watch regardless but i could see it becoming old really fast. i hope im wrong
Notwithstanding that battery tech is making massive leaps every year.

Perhaps a much simpler hybrid system that is, and here's the key part, not starved of energy, coupled with an e-fuel powered twin turbo V8.... Wouldn't that match the sort of PU many hyper cars have these days?

The battery could be much lighter, maybe even solid state, and with a more powerful ICE there'd be less reliance on it.

Anyway, we're way off topic lol

Like other colleagues, what I want is steady progress. It would be normal: there are problems, but the team will solve them because they are capable of doing so.

That said, I wouldn't want some of the problems to be the vibrations of the Honda PU ... because that would be almost an excessive repetition... it happened at McL and also at RB. They should be the best specialists in manufacturing them without vibrations.

Thanks for the videos, AR3-GP. I had seen the one about the gearboxes, but it was good to be reminded. And the cavitation problem... another source of vibrations... Hmm.

I also don't want the problem to be the excessive weight of the battery. This year's cars have plenty of battery ballast. If ours continue to be the heaviest by a significant margin due to the battery... Hmm.

I already told you that I have a feeling there will be a lot of off-track excursions after the straights with this "overtaking" mode. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't like the new regulations; they are very complicated, or at least they seem that way. I see an advantage for Fernando, given his experience in these situations.

We'll see. We're supposed to be constantly improving.

After following Alonso for 20 years, I’ve been hearing about plans for over 15 years. I’m hoping for results. There was no plan announced in 2023 and the car was competitive from day 1 of testing.

Also, not great news from MARCA. But some of the info is a bit hard to believe: https://www-marca-com.translate.goog/mo ... r_pto=wapp

Battery has minimum and maximum weight (20-25 kg) so you don't need to worry about that.

Google:

Based on the 2026 Formula 1 technical regulations, the battery (Energy Store) is required to have a minimum weight of
35 kg.

Key details regarding the 2026 F1 battery and hybrid system:

Weight Increase: The battery and associated hybrid components (MGU-K) are becoming heavier to support a higher 50/50 power split between the internal combustion engine and electric power.

Total Hybrid Weight: The entire hybrid system—including the battery, MGU-K, and power electronics—is designed to be significantly heavier, with the minimum weight of the total drive unit (engine + hybrid) rising to 185 kg.

Capacity: Despite being heavier, the battery is designed for high power density rather than high capacity, allowing for 350 kW of electric power (similar to Formula E).

My apologies. I believe I was told that there is an upper limit as well, but looking at the regulations it's just a single minimum weight of 35 kg.

If they still suffering with top speeds this week. Their problems way to big. Im feeling it. I try to think they didnt expect those problem and now they will fix them for this week. They NEED improve a considerable margin to say "ok their problema isnt to big". If what we see this week look like last week. They are in trouble.
