Without going too far afield, this makes me miss the Hypersoft, Ultrasoft, Supersoft, Soft, Medium, Hard, Superhard era.

Mercedes not even going near C4, just to ensure that their drivers may never top the laptime chart

They topped the charts on C3 in the first Bahrain test. They also topped the charts in Barcelona shakedown.

Fastest single lap is all well and good but I want to see full race sim data, which apparently is an impossible task since live timing keeps going down.

Isn't this test being shown in full on TV though? So better chance of getting love timing maybe?

:wtf: This "report" is being spread like wildfire! I'm guessing they want to give the fuel suppliers more time to develop the fuel before the first race.

the deadline for the fuel homologation is tied to the power unit homologation ; which is set for March 1, 2026 ...the other weird thing is why focusing on Mercedes supplier like its the only one non-homologated

Because it's from an Italian outlet and Mercedes are currently looking like the biggest threat to Ferrari world domination. For all the justified criticism of British media surrounding F1 that there is, the Italian media is perhaps a lot worse. Especially when it comes to things like selective reporting.

The fuel approval thing is highly complex now. It's not just submitting a fuel sample for the records and that's it.

The entire process has to be carbon neutral on top of the fuel regulations.

It would be a surprise if the fuels themselves aren't ready. The holdup has to be ensuring the whole factory complies.

Understandably questionable journalism bias aside; probably because Mercedes supplies the most teams and so their homologation has the greatest impact on the grid as a whole.

Also Merc power trains, of which fuel plays a part, are a hot topic at the moment.
