Mercedes W17

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's not all the same. The bottom leg is much further back on the front suspension. the livery lines are also very similar, so the upper rear arm is lower in the 2026 car.

Also you can see the bottom front wishbone is more inward

Interesting front brake scoop shaping. In previous regs they usually brought the airflow underneath the upper suspension triangle outboard mounting point. Here Merc have an aggressive ramp upwards. Looks a bit less cleanly managed, but maybe they have some benefit from managing upper tyre wake

Not exactly. SF26 deployed much more down the main straight and hence had less to play with on other parts of the lap. He has just assumed that the entire main straight difference is accounted for by wind, but that is clearly not accurate as you can see a 16 kph difference on the start finish line at the start of the lap (no way some light wind can account for that on a low drag car below 300 kph). SF26 has begun deploying earlier and for longer, W17 saves more for the other straights. These videos are interesting for comparison but the written analysis is often flawed.

New floor with different shark teeth, slots in front of the rear wheels, and diffuser changes that has the little extension piece on the outer sidewalls. The rear lower wishbone also looks lower than before, but it could be a split line change on the side pod/floor.

They've also brought new brake scoops. Massive package in terms of scope

All the news and hype surrounding Ferrari's big package without realizing other teams were also upgrading between Bahrain and Melbourne.
