Red Bull RB22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

As spotted by brakeboosted red bull also extends the crash structure winglet, but not to the extent of Ferrari today, but it is the second most extreme vertical extension of the diffuser on the grid

Have those secondary cooling outlets also changed? They look less vertical now compared to the BT1 pic. Never noticed how much lower the outer section of the diffuser roof was as well.

Yeah the lower outer diffuser portion is perhaps apart from the sidepod and front wing main plane the other main point of diversion with the rest of the grid

A nice view of the 'mouse hole' into the diffuser from outside, can see it on the right, left hidden by camera angle.

As pointed out by Vanja on twitter, the wing pylons are twisted outwards to increase lateral expansion.

In this view you can also see the diffuser strakes are notched and twisted about that notch.

So does this reduce/eliminate the floor extension?
Yes it's mostly gone.

was going to ask the same. That was my favourite aspect of the car until now. :(

Could you outline what you're seeing?

Seems like vortex generators to increase heat transfer.

So is nobody going to talk about how I said those sidepods looked temporary and that an undercut was coming? The new undercut sidepods even looks like they aren't permanent either and look to have a faux panel and that Red Bull are still testing things to see how different things work and correlate with there tools.

Considering red bull pulled the same trick (with 0articularly the undercut) in preseason for 2022 and 2024, people are less excited about making such a claim now, but good eye nonetheless

It's noteworthy that the final spec floor probably hasn't arrived yet, so the sp-floor interface may yet change

To me it was obvious but there were a lot of people trying to push there zero pod idea but it was clear to see the car was still a test lab compared to the other top 3 cars with bits added on and clearly areas where body work was going to come off.

It seems like the regs box would have to be pretty far back to have that extension? Maybe it's possible to adapt a little bit what ferrari is doing. They need to point the exhaust a bit down before homologation though....
