Also c4 is one step softer than what will be used during the Bahrain gp if I’m not wrong

From what I see Mclaren is pretty even with the rest in the first part, gains a massive amount of time on the second part and loses time on the third part.

Is the medium C3 or C4?
All 5 compounds are available here. C1-C5.
Last week only C1-C3 was available.

Pirelli C3 and C4 have yellow markings, C1 and C2 white, C5 (McLaren has none) is red.
I ask this because following live texts on Motorsport.com, they only say Lando's time was set on the Medium tyre, they didn't indicate what represents the medium tyre, C3 or C4.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Fastest lap was on C4. But the some live timing apps just show yellow M and don't show difference between C3/C4. Probably because usually only 3 compounds are available per weekend.

He did a lap on C3 that was 6 tenths slower.

Both Norris and Verstappen spending the first half of the morning session trying to 'tune' Q lap runs - both hitting a wall around the mid 1:33s. They tried everything by moving the deployment around in different mini sectors, and their most optimal times are still around the ~1:33.5, not improving.

Got it, thanks! Also, which sector has seemed to be McLaren's strongest? From what I see, it looks like on the C4, sector 3 there wasn't the expected level of improvement.

Amazing graph: McLaren very good under braking but terrible on acceleration out of the corner and some straight speed.

I'm guessing mclaren will be doing most of their passing at Pitstops, they look like sitting ducks and unlikely to overtake on the straights with their DF levels.

Or the plan is to qualify ahead and just run away.

Risky if it doesn't work. I hate watching McLaren stuck behind a slower car because they don't have the top speed to overtake.

We may se several variants of front/rear wings to suit different tracks. This looks like high downforce McLaren one.

Yes but, the straight line speed balances along the straight and the exit can easily be explained by deployment modes, engine modes or sandbagging, if you wanted to. That said, the kinematics this year are a departure from last year, so the idea that the traits of last years car will simply flow over are an assumption not based on much real world info, and so it is quite possible that we just have a car tailored more for entry than exit. I'm sure there are a lot of other considerations, such as which driving style a driver was using on this lap, in order to try and get the max. With little nailed down, and so many more variables, it's hard to take anything of note, unless you looked at tens of these animations of laps representing the different setups and styles for each driver to understand what the cars are capable of through the broad range of circumstances, and not just one.

Not great tbh. I still think they're hiding some pace, but I'd really like to see a competitive run this week.
Isn't a narrow delta a good sign of race pace?

It's a sign they're not pushing as hard as they could imo, hence I think they're hiding. I think it's a good sign, but I'd like some verification before we head to Melbourne.

And to add more to this horrible "race pace"...is the start
And do not tell me that there is a lower engine mode or sandbagging here. Australia is not looking good for now.
