Any ideas on why there was higher deg on Oscars C1 stint compared to his C2? I though the C1 would be more consistent, especially with less fuel in the car

Could it be because the c1 just doesn’t suit the track as well as the c2, or maybe the C1 a used tyre?
McLaren brought just 2 sets of C1, maybe they don't have the data on it and started to run too fast on it?

It could be also that we aren't getting heat into the tyre.

Btw about C3 runs, McLaren brought much less C3 than other teams from Big 4 (feels good for McLaren to be part of it). They probably didn't fine tune their quali runs compared to others.

A shame Piastri didn't use C4 today. Norris had a strong C4 run with S3 that was slower.

yes, that could very well be the reason too. looking forward to tomorrows runs, from everyone, but I imagine teams are still finding ways to hold a little back.

The gap between Oscar & Max was very small, the good news is that it was Max, not Hadjar, so its a bit more comparable in driver talent (not that Hadjar isn't talented), the bad news is I'm sure max could easily find a bit of pace if it was an actual race, but then no doubt Oscar could too

I'm continuing with my feeling that the car is good, but it's quite clear that it is super hard to predict, after each day different front runner seems to appear.

Important not to be too far off then I trust the development team.

This comparison with Verstappen is a good one. Started at roughly the same time (maybe idea for devs, if you have time of day for laps, allow matching if laps/stints that were done at the same time. Or at least offsetting them in the chart to line it up.

Btw I won't be surprised if Norris is able to run a better race sim than Piastri. At this point in time it seems Norris is handling these cars better. I hope we see a full uninterrupted race sim from him, he should be running in the afternoon session.
I dont see any reason to believe Norris is handling these cars better. :/

If Norris gets a go at a race sim tomorrow afternoon we can make a better comparison. Today there's no use in looking at their stints because track temps went up to 45C for Lando. If he had better deg than Oscar under those conditions then Oscar's season would be cooked before it even started.

On Day 1 Norris looked better, less abandoned laps, etc.

But more abandoned starts

I would say Lando appeared to have the edge early on, but I don’t think that’s the case now
