Ferrari SF-26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Onboard 1:31:992 lap by Charles on this last day of testing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTP_wjZgGZs

To me it looks like he sandbagged A LOT before starting the lap, he accellerated to full throttle/deployed all energy way after the last corner just before the "drs" line on the finish straight
That's not sandbagging. It's been a common technique amongst all teams when starting fast laps. Because acceleration is very strong, they save battery by deploying as late as possible before starting the lap.

Analysis from ChronoGp

Basically they said that, there is no maximum time for the flap to rotate therefore Ferrari could lock up it in position to create a parachute during the brake.
They could really do that? I thought that there was a maximum time of 400ms.

Nonsense, the rules clearly state that the movement is maximum 400ms.

Plus why would you brake with it? You want that energy in your battery, not in drag.

EDIT: typos

Nonsense, the rules clearly state that the moment is maximum 400ms.

Plus why would you break with it? You want that energy in your battery, not in drag.
Exactly what I think. As it stands now I don’t think that the flap rotates in 400ms tho.

This channel has a lot of production value, but the actual technical analysis is terrible IMO. I much prefer the autoracer people

So in total for preseason ferrari brought a new rear wing, floor, monkey seat and exhaust blocking flap thing. Anything else?
Didnt they say the Bahrain car would look dramatically different from Barcelona?
Who are the "they"? :)
the scuderia themselves. they claimed that the bahrain car would look nothing like their barcelona one.

Chrono… you really mist appreciate animations. Sadly most of the time they are completely wrong. As here when upper element is rotated, here is shown agressive angle of attack and even with that they exaggerated flow direction downstream.

I do not remember any official word from them like this. Only second hand "info" which is always meaningless.

Just because a guy wears a tight black suit and moves his hands a lot does not make him credible or sane for that matter :D
This "analysis" was so full of crap like they were having a dream or something...
The rule says 0.4 sec max setting time.
The upper flap will never rotate like they showed, downwards, and air would go down like that only in the mind of someone who never spent more than 1 sec learning about this...
Funny is when their animation shows the exhaust gas go up, it does not when the air is directed down via the inverted flap :D Like you would not have full throttle in a straight? :D Those guys (chronoGP) should be banned from this forum...

Agreed. In '22 they said Ferrari had come up with a split-turbo when infact they still had conventional turbo layout. I still watch them for the 3D graphics tho

I think it is a distraction, they conceived it, built it and ran it thru the wind tunnel and found minimal advantage if any. They then decided we have a working prototype so let's bring it out and run it a few laps and get everyone talking. IIRC Lewis pitted every lap and did not set any times with it.
Then it disappears.............
Never argue with a fool, they will drag you down to their level and beat you every time.

You can only test 60% dimension parts in the windtunnel, right?

In a time with a cost cap and limited CFD and windtunnel runs, if they actually built it and made it work (rerouting the actuator circuit and whatever), it makes very little sense to just do it for show.

It's clear that it's intended for specific races. Remember that Ferrari goes all out to win Monza every year. We will see this wing there, las vegas, Baku, China.

On the contrary, if the theory for how it works is true this is more useful in high DF races rather than low DF.

Plus if this gains 5-7kph, they need every single one of them in every race to counter the illegal engine.
