If this 'formation lap only' is true, I don't think they will even attempt Quali.

They will be going there just for the three FP sessions, forfeit Quali, and on Sunday, do formation laps from P21 and P22 and roll into the pits before the lights-off.
I am struggling to remember any team which has had this level of collapse over the past two decades or so. "Prost Grand Prix", perhaps ?

If they are still running the same package as in Bahrain, this was the most likely outcome. How would you expect that package to last the full race. And why would they run it the whole race if they are detuned, vibrating and last anyway.

They'll be taking a stroll around Albert park.

Agreed. On the Motorsport web site, it's stated as a question not a prediction.

I hope it doesn't come true.

The plan is probably to use free practice and then decide if they are able or not to complete race.
If they could do 30-40 laps it would be a useful test session.
It is what it is Honda always starts new regs slow.

I think it's just a possible scenario, as some of us are saying from the tests. It wouldn't be a surprise that they don't race. Or are any of you completely sure that they will? I wish they arrive to Australia with a car that works, but so far, it's more than reasonable to think that, as of today, their car doesn't work.

I believe it. They had severe vibration problems in testing which I don't think can be fixed in one week. Could barely do 10 consecutive laps and when they tried the car blew itself apart from the inside.

There's a big chance they're just unable to run a full race distance right now.

If the pace (sigh!) gaps that we've seen in Bahrain and Barcelona are to be representative, it will be quite a feat to be into the 107%. Let alone to do a full race.

Imagine the person who has to explain it to Lawrence Sr

Yes, but you can do these things with newly formed or satellite teams. Amr26 has a lot of important sponsors, and in my opinion, they're not even happy to can't participate in the race. Come on, guys, it's really embarrassing. I would never have said it honestly, but what do they think they're going to do with ADUO when they can't even finish a race. You don't do this out of respect for the fans and the team that makes you race.

At this point I would do like Brawn GP, who removed the engine they had and took another one, adapting it to the car.

The lack of parts is a ruse .the reason they stopped running the car was because it was not safe to do so .a mega cooperation like honda will never run of of parts.i sure they would have divided parts for racing and parts for testing

Yes, this is definitely one of the interesting things happening this weekend.
They can not even turn it down due to Parc Ferme and the 107%.
Either run full bean and run the engine like this or start from the pitlane. Any of the options might be super embarrassing for the team and whole F1.

I truly hope it is not that bad. [-o<

So I went back and reread what Ikuo Takeishi said.

He said 2 things one that they'll have counter measures ready for Australia
"The explanation was given at a press conference held this Friday. Takeishi he joined the president of Honda Racing Corporation (HCR), Koji Watanabe, and stated that measures are already being taken to combat the problem before the first race, in Australia, next weekend."

and expects to be competitive for Japan.
"I'm aiming to reduce the vibration before the season opener, but I intend to get the car into a competitive state before Suzuka," Takeishi said.

Not sure how many laps to expect but I'm not expecting any pushing.

Good news is there might not be any races in April.
