I don't understand Imola when we can have Paul Ricard or Magny-Cours
Probably because Magny-Cours still has the same problems that caused F1 to leave it in the first place: It is far away from airport and from hotels so fans and teams had trouble getting to track. Also having too cramped of a pit lane and paddock. Paul Ricard is the track many fans were happy to see off the calendar when it was dropped. Imola is a fan favorite (which is weird since racing is processional there) and it has already shown that it can step in when F1 needs replacement race on short notice.FW17 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026, 10:42https://www.grandprix247.com/formula-1- ... t-conflict

Magny-Cours is probably the best drivers track not on the F1 schedule.Cuky wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026, 11:17Probably because Magny-Cours still has the same problems that caused F1 to leave it in the first place: It is far away from airport and from hotels so fans and teams had trouble getting to track. Although I'd like to see them go to Hockenheim or Nurburgring if possible. I mean, both tracks are nothing special really, but they both have history in F1 and haven't been part of the calendar for quite few years so it would be nice to revisit them even on "please help us have a race" basis.
At a time of emergency, better to be close to home base to avoid all the transport to other end of the world.
Oh don't get me wrong (though it is my fault to not explain myself better), I love Magny-Cours. Ever since I started following F1 and got into gaming with F1 99 on PS1 I loved that track. I was just stating what F1 cited as the reasons to not extend the contract after 2008. But many tracks have had their faults overlooked just to keep them on so this could be a chance to see how the new F1 fits here.FW17 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026, 11:25Magny-Cours is probably the best drivers track not on the F1 schedule.Cuky wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026, 11:17Probably because Magny-Cours still has the same problems that caused F1 to leave it in the first place: It is far away from airport and from hotels so fans and teams had trouble getting to track. WRT facilities, it is a Grade 1 circuit so it ticks all the boxes
WRT to location, all the people here complain about the commercial nature of F1 and the ripoff the hotels and all places around the city. This is back to the basics race for the purist fans, road trip for the guys, camping and watch the race. NO COTTON CANDY
Well...as many of these "some say" by the press at the moment...I would wait what they really confirm. There is a good chance that the region is back to "business as usual" within the weekend. Would be extremely expensive if this goes on...
Magny-Cours is too cold in April I would expect. And I do not really get the point on this track, to me it did not look like special...since the rework I would say it also could be a track in the Middle-East...
Portimao: Tell this to Kimi.
Yes, I also think this is true and the problem. Either they cancel this week and try to reschedule everything in 3 weeks on whatever track they can get....or is simply does not work out in this timeframe.
