Red Bull RB22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Verstappen come Leclerc in low-profile mode: "I think we still have quite a bit of work to do to be on the front row, but it's something I had already anticipated." There's a lot of concern even outside of Honda (egregious case) regarding the vibrations generated by the engines. Red Bull PT had to lower its Power Unit in the second test precisely for this reason, and even Mercedes isn't totally confident in terms of reliability. It'll be a weekend to follow entirely #AutoRacer #AusGP #F1

What impact could this have besides lower CG?
I think it's a language barrier issue. "Lower" (used by google translate) wouldn't necessarily mean physically lowering the engine mounting (which I don't think is possible to do in the pitlane without a change in the monocoque) , it could most likely mean 'lower engine mode' , since running in higher power mode possibly produced larger vibrations.
Of course it is lower engine mode.

More important question is, is this reliable info . Only 1 source saying RBPT also has vibration issues, an Italian one?

if you look at telemetry between first and second week, you only see that the week 2 practice 3 low fuel runs by Max had some conservative modes, especially in s3.

So I don't believe this story at all.

Doesn’t this inner tunnel quickly ramp down to a flat floor? I think people aren’t getting that there isn’t a tunnel all the way along the floor there.

That's also a question that I had. It's not a true tunnel.

No it isn't. We were aware that it isn't a tunnel anyway when we saw it in Bahrain2.
It is, however, a venturi-like mouth between the tub and the innermost 'dagger' => strong longitudinal vortex running near the center of the floor, hugging the keel

Als the rear cooling exit is tighter vs Bahrain as expected.

We use very similar ruleset here on the MVRC. Ofcourse im not %100 sure that the mandatory surface areas are the same so need clarification about it. There is some kind a loophole on the rules on our challenge that kinda allows some extension on the leading edge with an aggresive turning vane that kinda reminds last years floor leading edge. The only requisite for this kinda design is tightly packaging on the stepped area.

Here is an example image. The highlighted part is the RS-FLOOR-STEP part.

Here’s some RB22 photos I took last night. The brake calliper in bits is very cool. It’s a shame Imgur doesn’t let you post the full res photo.

Plus one of the RedBull team showing off last years steering wheel.

Edit: figured out how to get a preview working - full album is via the link above:

Cheers. RedBull and Racing Bulls gave us access all the way up to the front of the garage, it was pretty amazing. My wife works in the Disability support sector (became a pro at navigating the systems as our son has severe Autism/ADHD) and the Melbourne GP reserves the Friday night pit-lane tour for parents and their kids with a disability.

Btw, here's some RB22 PU testing I filmed - turn it up till your ears starting ringing, and that's how loud it was. it definitely sounds different to last years Honda.
