Hadjar's FP2 race simulation wasn't that bad, actually. It was close to the Ferraris. He had issues with the deployment consistency. There's a lot of software behind how the car knows which part of the track it's on. It sounds like they didn't get it right.
"Reliability has been good, but in terms of consistency, every lap in FP2 has been quite difficult, in terms of deployment and everything," Hadjar told the media in Melbourne. "But we'll look into it. It cannot go smooth on day one, so it's normal."

When asked if the inconsistency was due to difficulty harvesting energy around the Albert Park circuit, Hadjar added: "We are [having to try different things], and it's also constantly having to adapt your braking points, because you're never arriving at the same speed. The dynamic of the car changes as well, so it's very tricky."

Red Bull is using the same wind tunnel contractor that did Mclaren's new wind tunnel. So they will have an outstanding wind tunnel when it is complete.

Been always wanting to ask this. How does the ECU/EMU 'know' the car's location on track ? It's not supposed to tap into telemetry data, right ? What then ?

Teams can use the number of rotations of the wheels, and accelerator pedal patterns to estimate position. Hamilton hinted at this in Bahrain. When he locked up and went off track, he screwed up the calibration.

what happens in a race situation when cars can go off or when cars have to take different lines to overtake or when depending on the condition of tyres within one stint itself, the driver goes for late-entry/late-exit at the start of the stint and by the end of the stint, has switched to early-entry/early-exit pattern ? Is pedal position trace enough ? Number of rotations of wheels is a troublesome parameter (I think) to use, as it will depend on diff settings, driving lines, brake lock ups etc etc...

We are talking about WBI, right?

How can this be race sim, if just 8 laps? We don't know anything about the fuel levels, it's meaningless comparison.

It's not 8 laps. It's 10 laps. 8 laps is the tire age when he started. It's a race sim because they start on high fuel. There isn't enough time to do that many laps. Teams extrapolate.

I think it's hard to really look at Ferrari's race sims. LEC did 3 representative laps and Lewis 5 on older tyres than the others.

That being said, I feel like Hadjar is going to be ~2 tenths off of Max. Prolly the best second driver in the seat in some time.

I'm not sure. Hamilton started on 12 laps old, but Hadjar was on 8 laps old. It's not that big. Leclerc said he thinks it's close between RB and Ferrari.

4 laps is likely worth a tenth or so on average per lap on a stint... but let's see. I have a feeling race pace won't matter much in these regs unless you're half a second faster again. Just nowhere near enough battery recharge to use overtake mode. Qualy will still matter a ton, and I think RBR shows a chassis deficit which could hurt them here.

These long runs are just too short and chaotic to be a useful indicator for us the public. Teams can extract data from them but we can't tell if someone would have huge degradation as the stints were too short.

Don’t think we will know until Quali and the race.
The data we have shows the team was right with 4th best
