It's absurd in the least to blame AM or Newey because Honda failed again, framing it as they should be monitoring the program.

Honda are a giant company compared to any F1 team. Is everyone forgetting that Newey had already been working with them at RBR for a few years?

It's not unrealistic then that he would have confidence in anything they tell him, and likely to believe the team who were building engines for RBR would just continue for AMR.

It's not his job to get a list of people at Honda and compare to before. Why would it be?
I hope you are being facetious. If some journalists knew this in 2021-22 itself ; how come 'god' didn't know about it ? Are you telling me the likes of Newey & Cowell will be happy to read some 'status report' emails from Honda and believe what they are seeing, instead of actually asking for CAD files, dyno data etc right from the initial stages, instead of waiting until the 2nd half of 2025 ? We didn't know about the 'limited resources of Honda' - It's utter BS in the press conf, to cover their hitherto lackadaisical communication with their engine partner.

At 2.4 seconds behind Russell without an engine, it means they have a sensational chassis. Well Alonso was great as usual.

ALO said they didn't touch from friday the car and just by running normal FP2 and FP3 they gained 2 seconds.

Not able to understand, did they not change setup of the car? If not how the car improved?

They just dropped the fuel and turned up the engine for a couple of quali laps.

I came here to say just that. Neweys did a fantastic job. The car is on Alpine´s pace without a decent engine, this is amazing :o

A journalist suggested that aston martin - honda may present the issues as a safety concern in order to be authorized to spend a bigger budget and implement a bigger evolution.
I completely disagree on the principle (the drivers never talked about the pain issues during testing, so it seems a bit opportunistic to mention it now), but that makes sense.

Watching Alonso onboards looks so strange......so much lift and cost, before fast lap he actually doesn't go max power out of last corner, he speeds up just before start finish line(surley not achieving max top speed?)....the also before big long chicane he lifts long time before corner making it look like a chef could do the corner.

agree. Unless you draw the engines, the supplier can always provide inferior products to their customers

They cant just turn up the engine for a couple of quali laps. They have to run with the same engine setup on the race also.

And what does that tell you about their intentions in the race?

Just finished watching quali and I've got to say, for all the pessimism on this thread, it doesn't look as bad as it seemed. The mess ups on both sides are truly a disaster, however the pace and reliability today show that there are some easy gains to be made with this package on all fronts - engine, classic, operationally and reliability wise. 2.4 seconds off the pace on a green track is more promising than a lot of people expected. If Newey is indeed correct that the chassis is mid pack, then half the deficit can be attributed to the engine, a lot of which should be easy pickings especially reliability wise. Now both AMR and Honda must work together behind closed doors rather than one slagging the other off in the media. I'm quite hopeful progress can be made even this year. Lets not forget this is one of the most engine dependant tracks and one of the worst for harvesting. Finally something positive. I know its a low bar but this year has all the potential to be miles better than McLaren in 2015 and even 2016 if both sides get their act together
