AM-Honda is doing poorly in FP1 and we have 10 pages criticizing how bad the team is. Now they're doing a better job than expected and hardly anyone is commenting here. Hahaha

Better than expected is having both cars out in Q1?

Of course! After the English and Spanish headlines, I was expecting an explosion, pistons flying everywhere, pilots electrocuted, and bloody hands or something like that, hahaha.

I don't expect these 80hp in China, also because the vibration problem maybe, and I say MAYBE, will be solved in Suzuka.

The situation is only negative, but less negative than what we expected from free practice, which is why there is cautious optimism.

Regarding the rules, I now understand why the drivers said there would be overtaking in places never seen before. What you see now is qualifying, where they slow down a lot before the straight and it's terrible to watch. However, during the race, instead of slowing down, the driver will overtake the car in front and then have to be skilled to stay ahead with it even with a flat battery. In short, there could be some unexpected twists and turns.

But I don't deny that these qualifications in this way are truly embarrassing.

80 hp in engine and if Alonso's assessment of there is more than a second to unlock in chassis is true, then this car will be comfortably top of the midfield and closer to the leading four. Let's not get carried away.. Mm

I seriously doubt mercedes customer teams are getting the same spec pu as merc.its always better to be a works team if you want to win champions
agree. Unless you draw the engines, the supplier can always provide inferior products to their customers
Mercedes supply several teams the same engine as per regulations, but their customers don't have the same software.

But seems they also didn't receive the newest Mercedes engine in testing, only getting access to it in Australia.

This makes it hard for Mercedes customers to catch up and properly optimise their engine.

With time deficits will reduce

Will be an interesting year to see. I think we could me smile a bit later in this summer. Praying to Alonso stay for 2027, maybe 2028. He deserves a decent last dance.

This year is to large and everything could be changed it, but, i see another Mercedes domination rising.unfortunetely

Me too, I hope he signs a 2 year extension, but realistically think they'll only do 1 year.

This doesn't add up to me. 80hp in Melbourne would be worth 2.1 seconds (15hp = 4 tenths in Australia). Another 1 second on chassis makes 3.1 seconds. Alonso qualified 2.6 seconds away from the Mercedes. So with these numbers The Aston Martin would be half a second in front of Mercedes.

Is that realistic?

Half of that in China and 75% in Japan and I'd be more than happy

In Q1, Merc was hiding pace a bit. I also don't think it is realistic and just speculating.

If what Newey said about 0.75-1 second off leader was accurate, that would put us close to the second/third best team.

The rest of the teams will also improve. These kind of maths are not that straight forward and simplistic. Far more complicated than that, to even discuss it in that terms.
