good effort, start was indeed mega, but i think ferrari are in kind of no man land.. merc have lot of pace, and ferrari seem to be ahead of redbull and mclarens .. sigh! long season indeed..

The team did a great job and we have a good car. The VSC is pointless since there is a huge difference in MB engine except the starts.
The only thing we can hope it's that the rule change at 1st of June will reduce a bit the "innovation" they have but i don't have high hopes.

Yea seemed to confirm its a rocket off the start, both gained quite a bit. Ferrari being in no man's land is second isnt the worst thing, they can pick up the scraps from Merc issues or errors

Agreed. The second VSC was a no brainer pit opportunity.

They never had the chance, there was no VSC the first time they went through, and pitlane was closed the second time.

The strategy was not to blame for the loss, Merc was too quick. I'd argue that it was worth the attempt, but maybe Ferrari was betting on some red flags or something to really have a shot since it would be really hard to do it otherwise.

They probably did their best race time since Norris and Max couldn't make the 1 stop work. Merc was just cruising at the front, they are a completely different beast on clean air.

The car seems pretty good overall, in the right circuit it could actually win, especially if they can get to the front in every start (which seems pretty possible, Lec had a pretty average start and got to 1st from 4th, Hamilton was almost alongside Russell from 7th!)

To be honest, even stopping at VSC, there wasn't enough pace to keep P1. At best, and being very optimistic, a P2.

If you had told me yesterday that we'd be competing for the win until a botched strategy and we'd be gapping McLaren and Red Bull by half a minute over the race distance I'd have signed that. Unfortunately the Mercedes was too fast to catch on the hards in clean air. You can say a lot of the gap was VSC but nevertheless they're really good on their tyres.

Still content with that. The SF-26 is fundamentally a very fast car, Leclerc and Hamilton are both at the top of their game. Acquitted themselves well at a track where they were not supposed to be able to compete. Confirmed our race start advantage, confirmed the car is VERY good on her tyres too, and confirmed that given the right track it'll be going knife to knife with Mercedes.

This season is far from over. The development race is on. Promising start but they are firmly behind Mercedes right now but that may not be the case later in the season. I don't know how Leclerc held up Russell for so long. That was some great defensive driving. Russell really should have found a way to pull away. The pitwall should have split the strategy at the first safety car as the hard tire could go forever and they should have known that.

This is the thing, we can deliberate but they are just too dominant and they don’t show their full hand yet.

If Mercedes get thier compression trick banned faster due to pressure for the good of sport and Ferrari introduce their spinning wing, it could be a very close fight for the championships.

No too bad, albeit I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t make them fight for the win a bit more - we didn’t have pace to win in a straight fight but it’s a shame Mercedes got an open goal with strategy.

I’m now quite intrigued for next week though. It’ll be a much easier track for regen and I think it’ll play more in our favour. With the starts and race pace we have, and if we execute well, I think it could be a bit more interesting.
