Garage Order for 2010

Post

I was having a discussion with some guys on another forum and the order of the garages popped up. My understanding is that they go on constructors points and car numbers go on driver points??

So next year we should have car numbers
JB-1
LH-2
SV-3
MW-4
NR-5
Other Merc/Brawn driver - 6

Then Garage Order will be
Brawn/Merc -
RBR - 2
Macca - 3

Does this seem right?

I think Merc GP will have numbers 3 & 4 seeing that they are WCC... but I could be mistaken on that.

yeah its a tricky one and kind of makes sense for them to have 3 and 4.. But then again neither of their drivers have 'earned' those numbers. The team will have the best pit box as a result of being wcc.
Then you consider RBR having 2nd and 4th in the drivers would logically make more sense they are numbers 3 and 4 in 2010.
Either way you look at it they are just numbers so its probably not overly important. But the pit box allocation is definatley are more significant coup. Am i right in assuming RBR will have the second box and Macca the 3rd?

When Alonso went to Macca in 07, Renault got 3 and 4 after being 06 WCC, regardless of their drivers position in 06 (Fisi and Heiki).

So one would assume it would be

JB (1)
LH (2)
MGP Driver 1 (3)
MGP Driver 2 (4)
SV (5)
MW (6)

and so on...

I believe the garage order goes on WCC results.

Matty i think you are right, as in 06 Ferrari finished the WCC in 2nd but in 07 Their drivers were 5 and 6. So logically RBR will have 5 and 6 then.
I cant seem to find the pit box order for 07 anywhere though.

Yeah that's the hard part!

I seem to remember that Renault were in the prime position... it's probably in the sporting regs somewhere, I might have to have a browse.

EDIT: hmm, can't find it in the sporting regs..

I just checked my torrent of the brazillian gp and Brawn were definatley teh last pit box closest to the pit exit. I have a feeling the reigning wcc gets to choose which end of the pit lane they would like??

How is that? This marketing BS has people's brains fried... did anyone really care that LH's car number was 22 last year? or that Massa's was 2? Or that they were battling for wins? Or that JB's number was 22 this year and SV's was 15?

Cars numbers(except for #1), in this day and age dont mean jack ---... about the same as marketing is worth to people of any intelligence.

Sure is! when you spend £200m building your cars, you don't want luck having a factor in your chances of winning! #-o

yep, #1 means something to sponsors in F1. The rest genuinely merely make up the numbers!

But head to somewhere like MotoGP, where numbers can be chosen, and each number is hugely important as a brand to the riders, hence Rossi choosing to ride with #46 instead of the #1 he deserved.
He (and his sponsors) are prouder to associate with his branded image #46 than to have the #1..

Garrage Order:

'Title sponsor' Mercedes GP [3 garrages] 3 & 4
Red Bull Racing-Renault [3 garrages] 5 & 6
Vodaphone McLaren-Mercedes [3 garrages] 1 & 2
Scuderia Ferarri Santander [2 garrages] 7 & 8
AT&T Williams-Cosworth [2 garrages] 9 & 10
'Title sponsor' Renault [2 garrages] 11 & 12 (may be renamed Renault-Gordini F1 or Nissan Grand Prix)
Force India-Mercedes [2 garrages] 14 & 15
STR-Ferarri [2 garrages] 16 & 17
Campos Meta-Cosworth [2 garrages] 18 & 19
Manor GP-Cosworth [2 garrages] 20 & 21
Team USF1-Cosworth [2 garrages] 22 & 23
Team Lotus F1-Cosworth [2 garrages] 24 & 25
Qudbak Sauber-Ferarri [2 garrages] 26 & 27

Mercedes and Red Bull are infront of McLaren as per the construstors champoinship. As the new teams wernt classified last year, they go alphabetically, but since Lotus was admited after Campos, Manor and USF1 they go after them. And as BMW Sauber pulled out and havnt had a spot confirmed they will get the last numbers on the grid sheet.

All garrage allocations are per traditional tracks and smaller tracks such as Silverstone and Hungaroring. However, newer facilities will give the first 6 teams an additional space. However, Monaco will enduce diffrent circumstances, all teams will only get a 2 space slot. I think Interlagos will be the same as Monaco.

I believe Rossi has in his contract that he can use #46 even when he is world champion. I know that at least Honda wanted him to use #1 when he re-signed for them back in 2002, but he refused to sign the deal if he couldn't keep #46.

I like the NASCAR system, where teams keep their numbers for years. Then the commentators can refer to "#18" or whatever, and you instantly know which driver they are talking about.

By the way, does anyone know why Ferrari ended up using #27 and #28 for many years?

FYI - the #46 was the number that Rossi's dad used when he was racing, therefore it is emotionally attached to him and so Rossi keeps it forever :P

Number 27 was Gilles Vilenouve's number.
Ferrari team kept it as a sign of respect for him.
Why it was 27 and 28, I do not know.
The only way to close a stupid question is to give a smart answer
