Aston Martin AMR26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

must have figured out that in the tradeoff between :
more cooling flow large hot air exit with more body clearance but in separation to boundary layer
v/s
less cooling flow small hot air exit with minimal body clearance with attachment to boundary layer

the latter flow is beneficial for the rear downforce generating structures

I don't see that as being announced as new. If it was new, it would have been announced in the Car presentation form above. Looks like those 2 pieces are removable with an array of different covers available.

Yeah, weird that the engine cover is not on the car presentation sheet. With the new cover, the old one looks like they had intended to have a slim cover but had to hack together that huge outlet to give the engine some breathing room. And now the new engine cover has been made to fit with that cooling panel under the MAADEN logo.

My thinking is that the different covers were designed that way from day 1 so technically it isn't new. We just haven't seen all the covers.

Slight difference in angle, but looks like same idea, less load. Which ties in with Japan's higher speed corners.

It's dramatic how this car gets progressively worse and worse above 80-100km/h...

The new cover is added on you can see the screw holes they are obviously trying it out.
Maybe that's why it's not on the list of upgrades.

Might need to update to say don't post on imgur as a few countries have it banned/disabled?

Good wheelbase comparisons but also, drastic differences in the engine cover shape based on packaging underneath (purple line). The Aston is extremely compact. How quickly the line falls from the intake entry and remains really shallow.
