Sometimes I wonder if Ferrari intentionally does glory runs in free practice just to stay at the top of the timesheets. If there were a free practice championship, Ferrari would be piling up trophies.

11 updates to continue being the 3rd best team...

It’s not just practice though, it was sq1 and 2. Either the Ferrari works the soft too hard (quite possible if they have more downforce) or Mercedes has some kind of party mode.

We're now behind two teams. This was my fear, given Mclaren would eventually get on top of the Merc engine at some point.

It's so depressing seeing the team do otherwise great work, but without the engine, we're still going backwards.

Think it will be Lewis’ final season. Shame, but the 8th ain’t coming. Good job by CL, but Ferrari just ain’t quick enough. Another season gone.
Lol would be better if it was His last race. Maybe he should tuck tail and just call it quits. Take his money and go spend time with the Kardashians. God knows that's his real talent.

The other teams haven't stayed stagnant. Mclaren brought their own upgrades and they're clearly working. All Ferrari can do is fix the small problems that piled up today to give themselves a better chance tomorrow.. the laps weren't perfect by any means. Good effort from Leclerc throughout the day though to give us hope

They do not purposefully do glory runs, dont be ridiculous.

Also, the 'amount' of listed updates means nothing. Red Bull's upgrade package was more significant than Ferrari's despite having less listed parts.

And lastly, the updates seem successful. The chassis has moved forward, but Mclaren have the Merc engine at the end of the day, and they were eventually going to get on top of it. We're moving forward well enough relative to ourselves, but without a better engine, we're never gonna fight for wins.

The 30HP deficit is too much to be giving up, the chasis is great but it will all come down to the engine ugrade and the new compression ratio tests from Monaco that will move this team forward significantly.

I think last year the pattern was quite clear that Ferrari went "all out" in FP1 already to get a better read of the car and the challenges they had when pushing it to the limit. Those are not glory runs, of course, but automatically result in better lap times at the start of the weekend - and I wouldn't rule out that they carried parts of that strategy into 2026.

This is a worse gap at Miami compared to 2025 even. It wasn't the GE cars, ham has just been slow since 2024...

I don´t remember the exact name of the user but it was somebody like "LM10" or whatever. He said to have laughed pretty hard when I said that Mclaren had already passed Ferrari on Suzuka and that Red Bull and Audi would do so too, later in the year. Red Bull is already on the verge of that, it seems. Mclaren is clearly ahead. Now, we just need to wait for Audi to bring big updates for my prophecy to be fullfilled.

Charles: "The developments are fine, it's just that everyone brought some. We were expecting this situation a bit: Mercedes remains the car to beat. McLaren has taken a big step forward, but I have the feeling they haven't optimized their first races of the season. They were always there, but without putting it all together."

"Today, in particular, we struggled with the tires. On mediums, it worked very well, but with the softs, the sensations weren't good, so we need to look into that. We know that in race pace, we are stronger. In qualifying, there's still work to do. In tomorrow's qualifying, we can try to fine-tune a bit and find some performance, but I hope that in the race, we can come back to the front. We have the pace to do it, let's just see if we'll be bold enough to overtake."

Leclerc looks a couple of years older than last race. What happened?

As always...one driver impresses and the other is just there...Charles is a beast.
As always?

In Japan, Lewis was just .15 behind Leclerc. And was doing well enough in the race as well.

And the previous race weekend, Lewis outqualified Leclerc both in the Spring and Main Qualifying sessions.

Why are y'all acting like this is some pattern? This whole season has been very weird. Do people also think Kimi is truly somehow 4 tenths faster than Russell? lol

We've definitely been way better in the race than qualifying, but against a superior Mercedes engine, overtaking and actually making it stick is going to be nearly impossible without a really noticeable pace advantage.
