When you’re following another car in F1, you benefit from the slipstream, which reduces drag and increases straight-line speed. In this case, Alonso spent most of the time in Pérez’s slipstream, while Pérez didn’t have that advantage. Despite that, Pérez was still able to stay ahead for multiple laps, which suggests he managed his ERS deployment more effectively or had stronger deployment on the straights. It looked like Alonso had to conserve energy throughout the lap and then use a significant portion of his battery deployment on the main straight to get past him. If they were even in power it would have been fairly easy for Alonso to pass him.
There's talk of a power deficit of more than 50 hp. Slipstreaming won't fix that. I haven't had the chance to watch clear on-board footage. But the fact that Alonso couldn't easily overtake him on the straights indicates a deficiency. However, it should be less than what's circulating around, and I think in a good car, it might be something that can be compensated for...

Perhaps it lack of same amount of power, but let's not forget importance of traction. Of course, I don't know how Cadillac fares in this regard. Maybe their traction is bad too, or maybe it's better.

It sounds like they haven't been able to optimize the electrical side at all yet. Maybe that just started in Miami. So perhaps we have huge chunks of HP to recovery from energy recovery under both regen braking and throttle regen.
Mistake by Honda for not taking up the gearbox.

Aston had decided to go for a Mclaren model, guess it was too ambitious for start of regulation. The wise thing would have been for them to have the bugs sorted out in their capacity and operations by doing one for 2025.

FIA adds >10% for ADUO...
So the rumors of a 60-70 hp deficit were real.
What a sHame of motor (the "H" with the new Honda logo")

$19,000,000 extra this year does not seem like a whole lot to allow Honda to close the deficit.

by "McLaren Model"... you mean as in AMR F1 are building their own gearbox, like McLaren?

For Honda to have made a mistake, they would have had to have been asked to build a gearbox and said no. Since AMR F1 hired Mercedes Gearbox Head in 2024, that was never the plan.

Probably has more to do with ...https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/arti ... Yt9rb8zcJB

“The measures agreed in principle today for 2027 would see a nominal increase in Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) power by ~50kW alongside a fuel-flow increase and a nominal reduction of the Energy Recovery System (ERS) deployment power by ~50kW.”

Still some will say that the problem is the chassis killing batteries by not controlling vibrations produced from thin air.

Definitely not. The changes for next year have nothing to do with ADUO this year.

The fact that they've added a >10% ADUO category with an extra one off allowance of $8 million for just this year is a damning clue that someone likely is going to qualify for that. It can only be one manufacturer. This means the Honda is more than 50 hp down, just like some have been saying.

Wazari says the PU hasn't been run at full potential because the installation is not correct. So Honda/AMR are deceiving the system a little bit. They are not 10% out on the dyno. They have to detune it on the track to stop it from shaking itself to bits. That's not really what ADUO is for.

I don't believe in an ADUO system. They should open development for all manufacturers.

I think you're taking a jab at Mike Krack.

How many of these difficulties are real? And how many of them might be artificially created to gain a competitive advantage? Is it too illusory to think that?

Wazari is a name I have not heard in 10 years. He was wrong an awful amount of time to be a high ranking Honda insider but also sounded weirdly sincere.

I was surprised to read you can't develop your ICE without it.

yeah it goes on and on. kinda like politics in my country. or the moon landing, or hell, even flat earth at this point haha. reality is never as good as the next conspiracy. but if the team can keep fooling the FIA and Toto, they need to keep it up. at least theyve done that right
