They're still on the original gearbox, I don't think they've replaced it. The bad behaviour on downshifts that Alonso pointed out isn't resulting in the gearboxes being damaged or replaced. To my knowledge anyways.
Asaki-san has stated the gearbox is crucial for energy recovery as it needs to be able to convert and absorb the forces and synchronize the drivetrain. All while not over heating and causing a failure.
They talk about all this testing with the gearbox going on in Japan, just makes it blatinly evident how far behind AMR were. Honda should NOT have had to wait till the 3ird race of the year to get a AMR gearbox to test with.
Indeed, AMR was way behind schedule.
In a way, they also told us so last year, that they started 4 months late.
If you remove 4 months, we are before the season.
But Honda also failed and was late, because they also start late.
The question mark is: Can they outdevelop everyone else and catch up, at least for 2027
