Russell:
‘Lando was quick there’
I still think it's hard to read. Antonelli was definitely the quicker Mercedes, but you saw what happened. Mercedes also started with 6 lap old mediums. I think if Antonelli had managed to get ahead of Russell, he'd have won by 5+ seconds.
First time I was impressed by Antonelli. He lost his own race but he sure was quick and feisty. Reminds me of young Verstappen.

Mercedes trolling everyone by starting on used mediums
This is exactly what I thought when I saw the grid status before the start.

Last year Russell put the Mercedes on Pole on Mediums, by the way, and yesterday he was basically equally fast in SQ2 and SQ3 as well. So will be interesting to see if someone tries the same again today.

It certainly would make for more pleasant viewing if Croft would just stop yelling; thank goodness Brundle is there to calm things down. Coulthard and Palmer are a much better pair.

No i mean the others are 2 tenths closer than sprint qualy. Mclaren is running their Miami car and they are 1 tenth back. RB 3 tenths back. It was a 3 and 5 tenth blowout yesterday.

Difficult to read what was going on.
Seemed almost random for many drivers with big performance swings lap by lap.

I wonder what would have happened if someone tried the medium tyre.
Seemed faster or at least on par yesterday. If I remember correctly, Russell also won pole last year on the mediums.

Still surprised there wasn't even an investigation against Russel fur pushing Antonelli Off. Kimi Made that corner but Russel gave no space. There were many investigations in Miami, yet none today here.....

I think some of the drivers were right to sound the alarms about a wet weather race tomorrow. If they couldn't get heat into the C5 today, they are hopeless on wets tomorrow.

Also don't understand why anyone would use the straight mode in the wet.

The difference from last year is the Canadian GP is usually held later in the year so it's rarely so cold here.

may also be a bit tire specific, though? As mentioned above, last year Russell took the pole on mediums, as the softs weren't working either.

That was for opposite reasons iirc. The C6 they had last year was made of butter so it melted/overheated instantly (race was later in the summer too so it was warmer). Today they couldn't get heat into the C5 which make sense since track temp is 30.2 and air temp is in the 20s.

Pole last year was a 1.10.8. This year a 1.12.5. They are there or thereabouts with last year's cars in qualy trim, and more or less faster in race trim.
