A total upgrade package of around 2 seconds before the summer break wouldn't really do that much in reality, considering the massive gap right now. And that the Ferrari teams get a PU update next race and then before summer break again, you'd expect them to gain quite a bit of performance too. Tough to see how next season the team will be fighting for podiums, so get why Alonso may call it quits this season unless he really thinks he can wait till 2028.
The rest of the field is making big improvements with their updates, so it is a floating target. A 2 second update that works might only be enough to jump Cadillac at this point.
I completely agree. At least looking around this track, we'd need closer to 2.5-3 seconds to be competitive in the upper midfield.
Yes, I do not see any point in staying with Aston Martin, unless Alonso plans to race through 2028. If Aston Martin do want to keep him longer than a year, he might as well race for another team. They will be nowhere in 2027.

Got to start somewhere, else you'll never update anything. Seems they've currently gone backwards on relative gap compared to the race or two before Monaco. Let's see what happens, and what they say tonight. Wonder what this circuit highlights.

That is what happens when you don't upgrade, you get further and further behind the other teams.

Hmm, ok, they shrugged their shoulders and just said, whaddya expect, this car is rubbish.
We knew this track would be a place where we would struggle in terms of performance and it's the case today. It's the reality of where we are right now, but we will try to do our best over the rest of the weekend.

I don’t like that alonso said in the press conference that it is most likely his last race at Barcelona, but we will see... Hopefully the B-spec is a giant step, but it sounds like it might not be enough.

Even if it was 2 seconds, they would still be p17 or something in Fp2.

Ah, I didn't know that actually, but seems like they will have F1 in Barcelona in 2028. So still hope for 27 then.

Except that no one else is standing still. They were 4 second ± off the pace in FP2.

I think we can all agree that 2 seconds is nowhere enough to contend in the midfield. And part of that 2 seconds will come from ADUO. From what we know, every team except Red Bull/Racing Bull will be getting ADUO. The rumoured update in pace is underwhelming to say the least.

It is hard to take anything Ralf Schumacher says seriously, but he claimed that Lawrence Stroll forced Newey to attend Monaco when he was still ill. Newey is renowned for in-season updates that are better than the competition, but if he's been ill and away from the factory for a few months now, it could explain why the update is not going to do much to close the gap.

Barcelona and Spa will alternate on the calendar starting next year.

newey said that he was planning to show up to the races in which he could make a difference at the track. monaco is obviously one of those. even if it didnt make any difference in the end. he plans to be at around the same amount as andy cowell was last year. i assume we wont see him at many until updates arrive though. because right now, it doesnt matter if hes there or not. he can be more of an asset designing things.

it does seem like they are running a lot more rake this weekend. i assume they are collecting what data they can in the meantime.

who was it that actually said it was a 2 second update? it seems like it may have just appeared out of nowhere and we ran with it haha
