In the world of F1 where drivers, team bosses and the sports rulers divide public opinion one man has been universally liked by fans of all teams and drivers – Professor Sid Watkins, for 25 years the man worked tirelessly towards driver safety and was responsible for saving many drivers lives as FIA medical delegate as well as founding the acclaimed Brain and Spine foundation, even in retirement from active race weekend duty he is still making F1 a safer sport as head of the FIA safety committee, it is an injustice that for this work Professor Sid has only been awarded a OBE. A group of fans have got together to form a petition for Professor Watkins to be awarded a knighthood in the next honours list to reflect his services to F1, this petition once it reaches 50,000 will be presented to Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell who is responsible for nominations
Professor Watkins deserves to be F1’s next knight to join the likes of Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Frank Williams and Jack Brabham
Please sign this petition and publicise it to motorsports fans everywhere as we help to ensure that Professor Watkins gets the recognition he deserves
The petition is available at http://www.sidwatkins.co.uk (Please note that this is an unofficial site with no formal connection to Professor Watkins)
