There was one 'expert' who came onto Sam Collins' f1tv show and said the Mercedes contraption indirectly adds 100kg of downforce at high speeds, vide his 'calculations'. There was another guy who said (can't recall where I read it) it would reduce laptime by ~0.5s.

Well Ferrari asked for clarification about their ideas in this area before the season and were told it's not allowed. Mercedes come with something which according to Ferrari is similar. Ferrari are now annoyed and petitioning fia for clarity. Fia can respond how they see fit. Banning Mercedes solution admits they made a mistake in green lighting it
