Odd race compared to Barcelona, but with only two samples I think it's too early to draw a firm conclusion. Austria was never going to suit us with the elevation and long straights, which naturally would push them towards more compromised / compensatory setups. I think we saw some of that with the twitchiness of the cars, perhaps prioritizing corner entry / exits to fight off the inevitable battles on the straights, and worse deg as a result. And it seems with the temperatures on top of that we couldn't bridge the gap.

Silverstone will be an interesting test to see where we stand across all categories, I think in less extreme conditions we'll see performance settle somewhere between Barcelona and Austria, which would still a meaningful improvement over the car pre-upgrades.

Did you get banned ? :o
Yeah, twice and for much longer than 3 months. So I now partake less than I used to which I'm sure many won't be too sad about.
I remember your comments always being so polite(despite our disagreements here and there), what crime have you committed ?!

To say something more on topic about Ferrari. Silverstone tends to be more cloudy, rainy, thus less hot. Also, Pirelli will not take C5,C4,C3 there. So, Ferrari should be able to cope better with tyre degradation. If there isn´t a significant bounce there, it could be ominous

This is the first year in a long time that Ferrari has a driver problem. Leclerc is performing like Massa at the end of his career, absolutely awful. This makes Hamilton look decent but he is miles slower than Antonelli and Max.

Not looking good. This is going another very long and disappointing season.

LOL you need to calm down. He had like 4 bad results in a completely new formula, possibly driving with a new brake setup and just qualified P2 at the last GP.

Mercedes was always going to run away with it. The team is losing on politics, not due to the drivers IMO.

This is another unnecessary complication that needs rethinking. The SM rear wing is slow to rotate so they can’t rely on the brake pedal to re-engage and have to do it early & manually; and with that comes the inevitable mistake. Good catch by HAM

Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

4 bad results is a colossal amount. Hamilton was only slightly better this weekend, which doesn’t really bode well at all considering Leclerc actual level.

I hope the modes scrub this trash off the site. Zero value add. This driver x vs y is getting tiring,

You could've searched the web for possible causes of their collapse. E.g. Lando thought Ferrari was pushing too hard in the corners to achieve lap time due to deployment handicap.

For you none of the millions of hours of technical homework matters, however. It's all down to terrible drivers because they must deliver stellar results regardless of conditions. Thanks Einstein.

Will deg in Silverstone be as bad as Spain?Ferrari can make a 3 stop work in Silverstone no?

Temperatures likely to be 26-28deg C for Saturday and Sunday with no rain currently forecast. Could be a stiff breeze from the West which is a tail wind in the high speed Abbey (T1) and Copse (T9) corners. Will that temperature be enough to cause high deg? Tyres will be C1, C2, C3 rather than Austria's C3, C4, C5 so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Edit: have seen C2, C3, C4 for Silverstone which might make it more tricky if temperatures get a bit higher.

I think the issue is that Silverstone has fewer braking zones than Barcelona - even though both circuits have a lot of fast corners, they’re not as similar as we sometimes think. So deployment will probably be a particular problem.

Can the high speed corner performance + some kind of tyre deg advantage for that kind of corner cancel that out? Tough to say but I doubt it.

My hope is that perhaps they haven’t optimised the deployment software for the ADUO upgrade - so while Hamilton said the “grunt” out of a corner felt good, they ran out of deployment too soon - and maybe there’s more potential there? But that’s just wishful thinking, not necessarily based on anything.

I would ignore what you saw in the race thread. Pirelli are bringing the hardest compounds in their range - C1, C2 and C3.

1 time is a fluke.
2 times is a concern.
3 times is a problem.
4 times is a disaster.
I am honestly shocked at the drop off from Chuck. If he does not get it right in Silverstone, it has to be asked what has happened. Commenting that 4 adolescent accidents is driver yin-yang is based. This is the highest paid driver pairing, likely by many miles, and if one of them does something like this, repeatedly/consecutively, it’s worthy of accounting in the team thread. Chuck needs to pull his $#it together. The end. No more excuses. A driver worthy of a championship should be able to adjust to any decent car without a lot of mistakes just like Max does…especially at the pay grade Chuck is enjoying (Didn’t he just upgrade his yacht again?).

Good points but not about tyre deg which is what was being discussed. :)
