Carlos Sainz: "If we want to have a faster car, we have to do what Aston Martin did"

πŸ‘‰ "Aston has just shown from one race to the next that a team that was dealing with one of the worst aerodynamic loads on the entire grid now seems to have achieved the best aero in the midfield".

πŸ‘‰ "The Baku upgrade won't be enough to fight for points".

πŸ‘‰ "After Baku, there won't be anything, and I think the team should focus on the 2027 car".

Vowles need to go, along with the Technical Director Matt Harman, who Vowles hired after being sacked by Alpine for making the worst chassis that was overweight. Alpine played a blinder.
There were murmurs about him being a guy full of hot air, talking a good game but lacking the technical skills. The nerve of the guy to say he didn't car about 2024, 2025. All the eggs in the 2026 basket, judge me in 2026.
Preseason it felt odd hearing the overweight rumours but the PR videos he mentioned the car was good and fighting for points regularly. Now that has shifted to not even making it to Q1 this year and focus on next year.

I am not a Willimas fan and i dont usually comment but one purticlar message after the Q1 exit from Albon reminded me of a massive issue they had since about 2008 that keeps poppoping up now and again, Chassis flex. Throught the time Goerge russell was there and before even when Juan Pablo Montaya was up until recently with Logan seargent there always seems to be a weird issue with balance and each time it turned out to be chassis flex causing resonance vibration making the aero useless (2012 random fluctiations with Pastor winning at Bareclona(the smoothest track at that time). 90% liekly the same reason. Ownereships chnaged so the factory might have lost previous knwoledge somehow. Nothing else explaines this and Honestly, Williams needs a new factory infact even a campus or atleaste equipments.

Which is going to be extremely difficult since capital expenditure is limited under the cost cap.
I think F1 agreed to have the limit raised as a temporary measure, but it's returning to normal shortly (if it hasn't already).

Just do what Aston Martin did. Build a new billion dollar facility, hire some of the best engineers around from the top 4 teams, including the most successful designer of all time.

Become a works team for a major OEM with recent success at building engines.

Simple.

Vowles said that Baku's upgrade would be massive. After they saw Aston Martin's upgrade, Vowles says their Baku upgrade isn't so massive, so eyes are on 2027. This guy just doesn't learn to keep his mouth shut.

Buildings, equipment.. Lets all remember that its people who design the car. Williams have sufficient infrastructure to be way higher up the grid. There really are no excuses.

"I do not want to build an infrastructure that depends on a person. Williams is not about me, a driver or an engineer," Vowles said. "He would have overwhelmed our team, and that would have achieved the opposite effect. He would have been frustrated in the end."
-- on Adrian Newey.

Adrian would have loved 30% equity in Williams than in Aston Martin. But sure there is no space for Adrian and James in the same team.

Anyway the team has gone to the dogs. I just wish they are not called Williams anymore. The guy who owns the team sounds worse than any Arab or Russian we had before and sounds like one who would be best friend of jeffrey epstein

Seems like James isn't aware of the history of the team, or he is deliberately steering it into a corporate environment. That would explain why everything is taking so long, and why they struggle to get a car built for the preseason.

I imagine each department is now a committee, and all decisions require approval by vote.

Exactly what Toyota, Ford and countless others tried to do.

James is confusing Mercedes success to the management culture than the 90hp advantage they started in 2014 and token system gave them.

Albon :
β€œWe know the weaknesses of the car, we know the directions,” said the 30-year-old. β€œI think as a team, this year, the work that's being done at the factory, it's the biggest effort I've seen from the team to really fight these genetic DNA problems that this team has.

β€œI appreciate it. I think we're doing exactly the right things to get back on track. It's a shame that we're here in the first place, but I do believe we're doing the right thing.

β€œIf it's cured by Baku? I doubt it. I think a lot of the Baku stuff has happened. That upgrade was planned quite a long time ago.

β€œA lot of what we're really, unfortunately, biting into is next year's car. It's making sure next year's car doesn't have these traits - frustrating!”

Agreed. I don't think a guy who specialized in strategy is who Williams need to lead them now. They need a more technical leader similar to Andrea Stella or a Binnotto. James Vowles was also known for his reliance on computers and trying to even things out unnecessarily between drivers to an debilitating effect at times. If he can't turn Williams into regular top 10 fighters by end of year or at least get his team to show a fast 2027 car in simulations, he should be fired.
