WEC 2026

Post

Amazingly there's still no thread for current WEC season. So here I am opening one to post few of the latest news:
Catalunya on October 18 and Monza on November 8 will be rounds 7 and 8 respectively of current season after FIA and WEC have confirmed that Bahrain and Qatar races have been cancelled due to stuff going on in the area.

-----------------

McLaren MCL-HY has made its debut on track and was even present at Goodwood

-----------------

Ferrari has started testing a big "Evo" update for its 499P hypercar today in Monza. They also have the track booked for Thursday as some reports have stated. This 499P Evo is being prepared for 2027 season

-----------------

And today as well, Peugeot has started testing of big upgrade package to their 9x8 hypercar which sees them drastically change the overall concept of the car. It is being prepared, just like Ferrari, for 2027 season.

Interesting thing to notice is that the teams with biggest changes on their hypercars are those who started before there was a change to how BOP is applied, especially at Le Mans. Many went with a car that is low drag, like Alpine, Peugeot and to some extent Toyota and Ferrari, only for that advantage to be nerfed by BOP and they being left with a car that has less downforce, but straight line speed being nerfed.

In other news, Ford's hypercar was supposed to have its first track day today at Paul Ricard, but there are still no photos or videos. Apparently Ford is keeping it all close to their chest.
