It considers the lowest ratio to be 100/100 and tells you the proportional difference between longer and shorter ratios. So, Aıdi has the shortest first gear, it is 100%, while the Red Bull's first gear is 94% longer, for example.

I think Aston and Honda considered acceleration in all gears as a common feature of both ice and em, and perhaps planned for more intensive em use in the longer gears.
That's kind of weird way of looking at it but I see what you're saying. RBR 1st gear is 6% longer. So if audi hits 11k in 1st gear at 40kph, RBR would do the same at 40 *1.06=42.4kph.

I've noticed that Alonso often doesn't use 8th gear. 8th gear on the AMR F1 is useless unless you have battery. The ICE can't accelerate in 8th gear alone. Too often in the earlier races he didn't have battery charge down the straights or in Miami he was saving it to use somewhere else. The result was red lining down the straight in 7th.

I haven't lost any faith in him at all, neither has Alonso and that is why he will stay, it is just a question of time.
Exactly. To me, it makes absolutely no sense for Alonso to retire now, just when for the first time in years they are finally showing genuinely encouraging and real signs. Leaving now would almost be disrespectful to the fans who endured this whole journey alongside him; for him, it would mean throwing away years of suffering for nothing. I admit I’d lose respect for him if he decided to leave now not that it matters, but it would be a very frustrating ending. In my view, he should renew through the end of 2028; anything less even just up to 2027 isn't worth it.

I agree that Alonso should stay through 2028 to see this project through and reap the benefits, but we have to remember, it is his life and what we selfishly want might be different than his.

If they can reach the rev limit in 7th gear, it means they can do something in 8th as well.

We need to look at the purpose of the concept here, because the only thing we know for sure is that they didn't achieve to do what they wanted and are now fixing things. So saying "it wasn't working" is even stranger, because they're behind precisely because they didn't get what they wanted. Also, they might have included 8th gear not because they needed it, but because of the rules.

Ultimately, the speed difference with other teams could probably be achieved in 7th gear if they could rev the engine a bit more. Also, reaching a certain speed earlier but staying at a lower maximum speed is a concept. The only drawback is overtaking. Example from motogp, Ducati’s main concept is having best acceleration not top speed. And they are very good at it. When they put a gap after a turn you should vlose that gap first

I'm sure if they had 2 km more of straight once they hit the red line in 7th they could accelerate another 5 kph. Remember, each kph faster the car travels, the amount of power required to keep accelerating is exponentially more.

Yes. Because of that they accelerates slower and slower as gears gets longer. But still accelerates and I don’t think Aston and Honda mis engineered 8th gear

I wasn't saying that. It is generally hard to argue gear ratios today as ICE today, without knowing what the power range of the ICE. I presume that once you get over 7k rpm, the torque and HP curve is flat till it starts to lean out at 10.5k

Apparently, there’s a little mess with all of the above: engine RPMs, clutch operation, and a rookie gearbox that will need to evolve to adapt its performance to the needs. So the symptoms I thought I was noticing were real, not just my imagination.
Not to be picky, but the clutch is not used during gear changes.

... it starts to lean out at 10.5k
wouldn't one think there is only one AFR for peak performance in this efficiency race ?
equally lean throughout
there's no obligation to use max permitted fuel rate at any rpm ie below 10500 or even at 10500

sorry Mr Rodak I'm a bit too busy to disagree with you as well

I just threw that number out there. You see these ICEs hitting 14K you think there as lean at 7K as they are at 14K ?
