2026 car comparisons

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not clear how much 'sidepod exits' Mercedes have, but their cooling game seems to be the best of all. Also, didn't expect to see Redbull's overall cooling exit area to be smaller than the Mclaren. Amidst all the internal turmoil within the team, Redbull engineers seem to have unlocked something serious with cooling design in the Austria upgrade, especially considering the air-to-air intercooler that they are adamant to hold on to, which no other team does, AFAIK.

Mercedes energy store vs Red Bull and Honda: Mercedes has focused on having a very low center of gravity.

Doesn't look like the control electronics are on the Merc battery compared to the other two.

With the battery pack. But if the K is beside the engine because of this, than they're probably worse off, right?

It's a safe bet that nothing about the Mercedes PU is "worse off". They are the reference.

So?
That doesn't mean they can't have a bit worse center of gravity, packaging or weight distribution with the PU...

Man, our battery tech literally s*cks so hard compared to how much we have developed on other areas.

Look at that chunky unit, and it’s only good enough to start super clipping after 300 meters on a straight.
