I dont think Govt. wants anyone promoting China, the only reason the 11th happened was Govt. action.PlatinumZealot wrote: β08 Aug 2026, 22:14It's clear now that the 12th team will be BYD. The question is.. Who will make the ICE? It is BYD's style to be vertically integrated, but a Formula 1 engine is beyond their capabilities, they will need a partner.

If F1 was allowed they would have had a 2nd GP by now.
In which world does 2.5 million sand people get 3 races
I don't think its clear. The 2031 rules appear to be firmly headed away from electrification. There will probably still be an electrical component but its going to be massively downsized and not a key performance differentiator. I'm not sure BYD would see any sort of benefit to joining a formula that's returning to an ICE focus and I'm not sure the FIA would have any interest in doubling down on the current electrification disaster to attract BYD. The FOM might but they don't make the rules - the FIA is clear its going to push through the new rules even if it costs them existing manufacturers. There won't be a Concorde agreement so they can do whatever they want. Imho it's far more likely we get some sort of Cosworth/Mechachrome/Toyota entry than a BYD one.PlatinumZealot wrote: β08 Aug 2026, 22:14It's clear now that the 12th team will be BYD. Many BYD vehicles are hybrids by the way. Different from that even if the electrical contribution is downsized it would still benefit BYD just for viewers to know that their electrical components used in F1.gearboxtrouble wrote: β09 Aug 2026, 17:14I don't think its clear. Yeah but China and BYD are well on their way to ending their ICE R&D. I have no doubt they have the technical capability to make a next gen V8 F1 engine and fuel but it wouldn't make sense from a marketing perspective. Maybe F1 could contract BYD to build a spec 50 hp MGUK and 0.5MJ solid state battery for a hybrid overtake system in the next engine that everyone uses.PlatinumZealot wrote: β09 Aug 2026, 18:21Many BYD vehicles are hybrids by the way.
