Whether it ends up being such figure or another, if Honda delivers a decent step in Zandvoort it will already be much better than 2015. don't see the point of this post., just pissing off the Honda fans here for no reason. Let's be mature please.
Think the term is trolling.
It was a pointer to a possible scenario.
One much more likely than a positive one.
Hope I am wrong, but this Honda&Alonso we are talking about, it's cursed.
Funny how some people point to the 2015 handicap when the "much slower than before" engine was in third racing year, with unrestricted development.

I totally see where you are coming from when saying that this is a possible scenario.

There was HUGE restrictions in 2015. The limiter was called the token system.

I think he was referencing 2017, when engine development was unrestricted and Honda's new split turbo was still a disappointment in terms of power, reliability, and fuel consumption. Honda was confident that its single cylinder pre-injection technology could carry over to a six-cylinder design, but it led to knocking effects.

I still say again that the way Honda's F1 engine program was managed in the mid 2010s is entirely different to today.

Not sure if i should post this hear but I just realized why Honda waited till the Dutch GP the bring the upgrades . 2nd ADUO period end in Hungary GP so Honda will still be recorded as down on power. Extra benefits for sure

They're still being compare to RBPTs ICE. Since, nothing has changed in those 2 ICEs, nothing has changed.

Yes but the current bump in power would put Honda between 2-4% if everything goes smoothly. The 2nd round ADUO assumes Honda will still be in 8-10%. So Honda will have more budget and test bench hours despite being closer. Granted Others will bring upgrades now too like Ferrari so let's see.

Not sure. They already qualified for 2 more upgrades in 2027. The skipping 1 upgrade this year. So they get more upgrades in 2028?

Honda wishes to be a top competitor no later than the start of 2028.

No extra benefits. Honda already qualified for the strongest ADUO so it won't make a difference. The next meaningful ADUO period for Honda will be race 1-6 in 2027.

Any unused ADUO benefits are forfeit at the end of each season.

After the summer shutdown, we want to go back to the racing field, and then we are working hard in the factory to bring an even bigger step for 2027, but, again, we should be realistic.

So, I think that at the beginning of 2027, maybe we will not have the best of the power units yet, but we will be closer to the top competitor. And then we keep pushing hard to be top competitor, I hope, in 2027 or 2028."
I think this pours a bit of cold water on some of the more optimistic numbers people have been throwing around in here for the new engine.

On a positive note I think they are being more honest with the timeline this time. Start of 2028 is realistic if things go well.

If Alonso stays through 2028, like most of us desire, he might still have a chance at number 33.

We were discussing the ADUO benefits of Honda delaying it's upgrades till the Netherlands race. I was asking, could they start handing out ADUOs for 2028 now? I didn't think so. Too early, Appendix C5 of the regulations, ADUO concessions apply only to the current season and the immediately following season. So no 2028 ADUO till 2027.

Wrong, the issue wasn't the split turbo in 2017. It was the MGUK shaft that was breaking and the cylinder plating getting damaged by the piston after they figured out high speed combustion. They solved it by asking Honda Jet to examine the MGUK shaft, which they quickly figured out just by looking at it. And the cylinder plating was improved thanks to Honda Kumamoto Motorcycle division with their new plating innovation.

Nope, not likely. Honda engineers are looking forward to Zandvoort.
