During FP1, Anthony Davidson was saying if the driver can feel the difference in HP, then there must be at least 30hp. This was based on comments made by Lance after filming day.

Question for the better informed? Will the fuel need to be altered to better optimise new combustion process?

Alonso stated that losing driveability of the engine and consistent engine braking may have negated any increase in power. When they gain those few tenths back, it should be more noticeable.

Should we expect to see a Macarena style wing for Monza? No easier way for Aston Martin to gain 3 to 5 kph in straightline speed.

That might be one of the reasons why they put that big arch on the “ARM.” It’s not gonna be banned for 2027. It would also be helpful in Baku. Questions like that always come down to whether they can make bigger gains elsewhere.

almost definitely. they probably brought a different formula, or formulas to test and will probably continue to work on it to improve combustion. but i think thats kinda non stop this early in some regs. its just really secretive and isnt discussed that much. there was a race podcast that interviewed a lady that worked for exxon inside of redbull last year that was kindof interesting, but it was over my head

i remember somebody saying they were working on one real early in the season. it would be cool to see, and monza/baku would be the places to unveil it if they were going to. maybe they needed to change the apparatus that engages the wing to make it work right.

IF Honda gets it together, they will be best of the rest by the tail end of the season. The insane amount of wind tunnel allowance and Adrian settling down in a good team around him, 33 is coming, I have wait for 13 years and I have never had a stronger feeling bar 2023.

It’s definitely encouraging, but I remain worried about Honda; because their past and how the year started, I simply can't see them delivering anything even remotely competitive. I’m still afraid that everything might be "perfect" but ultimately wasted by a bad engine. Before anyone starts defending them, yes, they might deliver something decent around 2029, but I wanted to see Alonso doing something.

Mercedes don't have the best ICE and they're winning, RBPT does and they're not. It wouldn't be the first time a Newey's team's car beat car with more power.

Newey's Renault powered cars were only down about 10-15 hosepower on the Mercedes and Ferrari V8s back in the day, and they had a huge downforce advantage with their exhaust blown diffuser. I am hoping Honda can close most of the gap by 2028 to put Newey in a position to develop a winning car.

They have the best power unit with a decent margin. These are more or less electric cars. It's energy recovery and deployment that trumps raw ICE power. Whether thats down to software or what, IDK. AM-Honda seem to be particularly lacking in this area so far. Maybe McLaren has caught up with their software mapping. It could also be that Mercedes is still holding back some performance. I wouldn't hold my breath for any race wins anytime soon. Outside of complete flukes like the Ocon win in Hungary.

I've said this before, so I apologise, but I'm always so confused by this notion:
"Because of their past I can't see Honda delivering anything even remotely competitive"...
Each to their own opinion wise and I know you said 2029 they might be ok, but to me it is an interesting stance to be fixated on Honda's 2015-2017 period, when they just joined, and then just completely ignoring their performance for the subsequent 7-8 years and now yes, on the back foot but clearly not in the same circumstances as when they just joined.
If anything isn't it just as feasible a view that it can give us confidence they can develop themselves out of a hole faster than most?

The chassis has made strides but still needs work;
Alonso's race pace in Zandvoort was 2.25s off the top 3. Let's reduce that to 2.0s just for some favourable margin. Even if by some miracle you allocated 1.0s of pure deficit to the engine only (in reality at Zandvoort it was closer to 0.6, 0.3 of which was the run from final corner down the main straight alone), the remaining 1.0-1.5s deficit is inherent to the chassis, which puts it at maybe a touch faster than Racing Bulls, which is great but still some way off leading pace.
We now know from De La Rosa, they are 10kg overweight and will be reducing that over the next couple of races. If they can shed the full 10kg's, that's a safe 0.3s of free lap time gain on average.

My biggest worry is actually if Aston can build a race winning chassis in the near future, not so much the power unit, which will at a minimum get within a couple of tenths sooner or later, as they all seem to do.

Nobody said that. The riporter asked Mike if they will change the rear wing to a Ferrari style. He told ,we focus on our side and we will make which is the best for our package.

this seems like a classic case of analyzing a bunch of things without enough data to get a correct answer. are you accounting for driveability issues (this is a big one)? or how much of the race alonso was saving his tires? or how he used a set less than everyone else on the track? or alonsos penchant for only driving as fast as he needs to, ever?
all i know is that everyone in the team are happy with the progress of the chassis, and everyone, including honda realize they are down on horsepower to everyone. also, they are good in corners and good on tires. monza will give us a better idea how they handle under low downforce i guess. but i trust that AN knows wth hes doing too.

Agreed, and we can also see the difference between qualy and race.

Honda seems much better (or less worse) in race compare to qualy, that was also highlighted by SAI recently
