I thought so too at first. But I guess they couldn't work during that time. I'm not sure, but I think there's some kind of restriction.draghixa wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 16:08It's weird what AMR Honda did in their filming day. They had a 200km test session to test not only the horse power but also the drivability of the upgraded engine, however they didn't ask Alonso or Stroll to drive but instead asked their back up driver who didn't figure out the drivability problem. If one of the regular driver figured out and Honda would have three weeks to sort out the problem.
I believe Honda stated after the test that they would work on driveability before Zandvoort. Because the data was so limited, maybe it was not enough before the race.draghixa wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 16:08It's weird what AMR Honda did in their filming day. I think drivability is evident with any race-driver. Both on data and driver experience.etusch wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 16:35I thought so too at first. But I guess they couldn't work during that time. Agreed, but using a driver who had been driving the car all season would allow that driver to pick up differences in the way the car was driving. It's the changes that matter, be they good or bad.mzso wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 17:33I think drivability is evident with any race-driver. They drove the new car in Hungary just few days ago and then used the same new car in the filming day , just with a different engine. If it was Alonso or Stroll driving they would've known the issue after a few laps and gave more accurate feedback to Honda. May be as etusch mentions AMR or Honda could not work on the car in the summer break, but they still would have three more weeks to prepare, Alonso only took 25 laps in P1 and 5 laps in sprint Q to feedback the the drivability problem, Honda took overnight to work on it and on saturday the car was much better in sprint race and qualify.
I don't know how much more convincing a driver needs that a tête-à-tête with Adrian Newey!etusch wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 19:23When I read what @De Wet shared at honda power unit topic, it is hardest to tune I think.

And because Alonso still has not signed, I more and more feel that he is leaning towards retirement.diffuser wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 20:52I don't know how much more convincing a driver needs that a tête-à-tête with Adrian Newey!etusch wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 19:23When I read what @De Wet shared at honda power unit topic, it is hardest to tune I think.

Honda paying for part of Alonso's salary does not make sense because Aston Martin's agreement with Honda is to pay for the engines.zoroastar wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 22:39there are reports that stroll is wanting honda to pay part of alonsos salary for 27 and 28 at 40 million. i imagine part of his delay in signing is the fact that he knows that they have no other serious options and he intends to capitalize money wise if hes gonna be stuck in the midfield again.
i still dont think that hes ready to leave with newey in the team. he could go, but hed still like to leave on top and its still a possibility. and hes got big money coming if he sticks around under the circumstances.
In the McLaren days, they gave the PU for free and gave McLaren $100MTyreSlip wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 23:13Honda paying for part of Alonso's salary does not make sense because Aston Martin's agreement with Honda is to pay for the engines.zoroastar wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 22:39there are reports that stroll is wanting honda to pay part of alonsos salary for 27 and 28 at 40 million. i imagine part of his delay in signing is the fact that he knows that they have no other serious options and he intends to capitalize money wise if hes gonna be stuck in the midfield again.

There are Performance clauses in the contract between Aston and Honda in their initial signing.TyreSlip wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 23:13Honda paying for part of Alonso's salary does not make sense because Aston Martin's agreement with Honda is to pay for the engines.zoroastar wrote: ↑28 Aug 2026, 22:39there are reports that stroll is wanting honda to pay part of alonsos salary for 27 and 28 at 40 million. i imagine part of his delay in signing is the fact that he knows that they have no other serious options and he intends to capitalize money wise if hes gonna be stuck in the midfield again.
