Super happy with the news Lando is staying for the next...4 years. Jezz, is something to be with the same team for 12 full seasons in F1. And at a high level. But as Max is RB creation also Lando is McL creation.

Looking at Monza next, I cannot see a way that this MCL40 will be competitive, whether they bring the rotisserie wing or not. Their low gearing and short-wheelbase car will bleed lap time in the heavy braking zones and on the straights, which make up most of the circuit. I hope I'm wrong, but there’s very little chance we’ll even sniff a podium next weekend.

Yes, this is the litmus test. But don't be hasty to judge.

There are two major tests here. Drag and rotating into corners under breaking.

There's no hiding on the main straight and then into T1.

The team have done plenty on the mechanical side and on the aero, and all may cone up roses. Though I suspect we'll be fighting for a podium rather than the win.

Ferrari and Merc will both likely be strong.

I’m not suggesting any particular result for Monza but we also have to consider the race winning pace Lando showed in Spa- another drag punishing, straight line speed and energy efficient rewarding circuit and it was also shown with the pre- updated car.

Ferrari will be strong though. PU upgrade, car and circuit specific upgrades are expected from them as they tend to go ‘all in’ for Monza.

I seem to remember everyone writing McLaren off at Vegas last year, okay, it was a double DSQ, but until then they finished 2nd & 4th, so let’s wait & see how they can perform when the car’s set-up for this type of race

I can’t see a title challenge being successful this year, those 3 non-finishes at the start of the season were very costly. Kimi is going to have to have similar bad luck to make a title possible, and that is unlikely

What I am really looking forward to is simply the end to the Callander, 14 weekends, 11 races, 3 triple headers (and hopefully some more wins). That is insane!

Spa is a different setup and has several tricky aero sections and requires traction out of corners. Monza is more about pure speed and low drag.. and braking.

Does tbe MCL40 have lower drag than merc and Ferrari? How does engine power match against each of them...

If the new RW runs it could maybe push us on, but I'm not personally expecting to match the last two races, but I do expect us to be competitive..
