I agree that Honda cannot catch up.
They will need to focus on next v8 engine… and in the meantime reduce the gap.

ADUO is a joke, the overall Mercedes PU is clearly the best.

When you see Gasly take pole with a chassis less good than Aston…

Anyway, I’m curious to see what Fernando will do and what Aston will do for the futur
That is not completely accurate. Just because the AMR26 might be the more complete chassis, does NOT mean it's better in all corners. Truth is Alpine was faster in turns 6,7 and 11. Meaning they didn't have to slow down as much to make the turn. They were equal in the other turns. So the PU has to improve but so does the chassis.

If you can carry more speed in a corner, you don't need to use energy to get back to that speed. Instead you can use the same energy to accelerate beyond that speed.

Unfair to compare chassis in turn 11 because the Honda is spooling well before the corner so enters with less speed.

Honestly, this reminds me of 2014, except this time Mercedes is being more stealth in holding back the power of that engine. The fact that they have ADUO when their engine is clearly better than everyone's is testament how well they play the political game.
I dont know any other team that has consistently gotten pre approvals for tricks as them from the FIA. DAS, the ambient temperature clarification in the last draft of the new rules. Flexi wings not being banned for almost one year.

Im sure it was a coincidence that Toto knew the RB cost cap breach before it was announced. Im sure its also a coincidence that Hamilton had like 5-6 crashes in '22 and received no penalties whereas he has received almost 9-10 since in 2 years since moving to Ferrari. I think thats close to the total he received in 12 seasons at Mercedes for collisions.

Im sure its a coincidence that FIA did not foresee the problems with the current rule set even though multiple people specifically pointed them out and Mercedes was the only team happy with them.

I posted a few days ago that Mercedes was hiding pace coz they were comfortably leading both championships coz they dont want any drastic changes to the rules for next season. I know this because Toto isnt whining in the media about something which he would have been had they been in any danger of getting caught by others.

It doesn't make sense to slow the car down below the max speed it can carry in the corner, cause if you do, you then have to expend energy to get back to that speed. So you have to believe that the speed in that corner is the fastest Alonso thought he could carry in that corner.

The rarest resource in this F1 under these set of rules is electrical. It the only resource that varies from corner to corner. To make the most of that energy from a non PU perspective you need to make the most downforce by generating the lease drag and you need to be able to carry the most speed in all types of corners. The one thing that uses more energy that the energy needed to maintain the current speed is the energy needed to overcome the drag to accelerate.

Is not just that, we didn't know the 90% how is still works. There are things like how fast then can recharge, how fast they can deploy, how fast they can switch between states. Honestly I would make the energy part public just like the they do with brakes etcetera.

I know Honda have a terrible engine this year and progress looks... sedate..., but McLaren were +20s, Alpine +27s, Williams +74s to Mercedes in the race. Tricky.
Software and deployment strategies play a big role for all Merc-PU teams.

Note - I said non PU related. The PU opens a whole new can of options.

What the chassis side has to focus on. They seem to already have tire wear under control.

That's a strong statement... The FIA has been kissing Ferrari's butt for like 40 years.

They have both been kissed in different ways over the years. Don't forget Mercedes and their illegal tyre test in 2013 to get on top of their tyre wear issues.

Generally, the first to ask for clarification of regulations come from those that are ahead in R&D. They know what they're asking and why. Often, everyone else is left trying to figure out why what they're asking is important. The FIA, not being in development, rarely are clued into the why.

this disproportionately increases the time generating at 350 kW

that's much of the reason for the 2026 '2-state' aero rules

Best solution here is kick Honda out from F3 sorry F1 forever if they don't take the sports seriously. Even Audi is doing better job in engine side.

more downforce, isn't ?
If the brake calipers grab the brake disc with more retarding force than the amount of 'grip' available, the wheels slide and don't rotate, don't they ? Similarly, if the retarding force (the amount of electrical load applied by the MGU-K on the wheels) has to be highest possible, there needs to be more 'grip' from the tyres (otherwise the wheels will slide and provide no rotation, which in turn would mean no energy recovery) , which can be provided only by more downforce.
Or is there a 'catch' that i am oblivious to ?

at high speed the rear axle grip allows total (friction + generating) rear braking power of over 1000 kW
(because DF is high and also a given braking power requires less tyre grip at high speed than at low speed)

but whenever rear tyre grip allows over 350 kW total braking we are failing to recover some energy that has cost us fuel
this is why the max 2026 aero DF has been made less than the 2014-2025 rules gave
