Alonso said yesterday in the press they will need to do something different on strategy compared to the others, so I can see them starting on softs for two reasons. One, not to get caught out by an early safety car with the hards. Two, to pit early and run in clean air away from the Williams cars.

Doubtful enough cars ahead will crash tomorrow but who knows here.

That's one of my concerns for the race. One of the strength is tire wear and accidents with VSC, safety cars and red flags can take away that advantage by decreasing the time it takes to pit to changing tires.

Restarts too would make Aston Martin vulnerable in traffic as they would be a sitting duck on straights. Even with perfect execution of the strategy, points is still a long shot.

S3 in FP3 was 31.397...in Q1 it was 31.952. Why did we lose .6 in that last sector ?

I've thought about it, I don't think they're changing the casing. They already changed the gearbox case in Hungary. The rest still applies... What they're talking about changing now is the gearbox/gearbox cassette itself, which sits inside the gearbox case, isn't structural, and has no limit on the number you can run in a year. Although the gearbox design is homologated, therefore, can only be updated for reliability.

This certainly isn't true. They can change the gear ratio once a season. That's not a reliability change.

This certainly isn't true. They can change the gear ratio once a season. That's not a reliability change.

I have to go back and verify but if memory serves me the gear ratio change is worded as an exception JUST for this year.

Every recognized journalist and credible public source on the face of the earth, from Andrew Benson to the guys at Autoracer and everyone in between, has said that Honda’s update was below expectations. I mean the team's actual expectations, not random people on social media or fan forums expectations. If Aston ever had a chance to start scoring points this season it was with the one-two punch of the Hungarian chassis update and the Zandvoort engine update. But the results have been underwhelming. I was one of the first on this thread to report that according to what I could infer, before they confirmed it. Yes, it's subjective, it's an opinion, it's all meaningless and pointless, I'm a total idiot. (just mute my account if that's the case...) Now the usual comments about longer lead times, the gearbox, drag, or whatever else. All I know is that those were the actual expectations, and they haven't been met.

Next year is different and so on and so forth. A new engine, a good step forward expected, all things stated verbatim. There is a roadmap in place. Fine. That’s the expectations now, created by themselves. I do really hope they deliver as expected, but again what I want does not matter! I apologize to anyone who might be annoyed by reading this, but that is not my problem.

I can somewhat understand Formula 1 fans who post comments on standard news sites because of thier lavk of understanding, but if someone writing on F1 Technical claims that Ford is ahead of Honda even in its first year, he must be displaying an indescribable level of unintelligence. Really unbelievable

It's a Red Bull engine, but it's far ahead of Honda...
