My intuition is that Honda will be working on a new engine, because I don't think this one is salvageable.
The question is when Honda started, and whether they had the necessary personnel and experience from the outset. They recently said they had brought in more staff with experience, but I don't remember them saying—or perhaps they did—when exactly those people joined.
And I assume they will have to homologate an engine at the start of the 2027 season.
So perhaps this explains Alo's reluctance to announce his renewal without knowing whether the new engine will arrive on time, and, if it does, what kind of performance it will deliver.
I can't see Alo committing to another year based solely on the promise of a new specification of the current engine (+15–30 hp).
It's only been repeated 500 million times on this forum that Honda said that they're not getting enough energy out the combustion. They are NOT gonna build a whole new engine (whatever that means) to fix that. The bottom end of the ICE, is probably working as good or better than anyone else's. Combustion is all about heads, pistons, intake, injectors, turbo, software and whatever sensors they're allowed to use.
