Actually it did. The car of 2025 was nowhere near this one. However it's Ferrari who have to improve their game as they tend to waste so much money and their development is horrible.
It’s all within their normal deviation between seasons.

2021 - poor
2022 - good
2023 - poor
2024 - good
2025 - poor
2026 - good

No titles.

Nothing to do with Lewis Hamilton.
According to this, next year will be poor? Nice.
It’s not often, but they do sometimes get it sort of right for a few years in a row. I think the most recent was Vettel, who got two decent cars back to back — still not the fastest over a season, of course. For that, you need to go back to Jean Todt and Ross Brawn

Honestly, it is quite amazing how the Ferrari cars always seem to have one fatal flaw.
Redbull from 2022-2024 was basically flawless. Only Singapore seemed to trip them a little, but every driver on the grid would take that weakness

Mclaren from Austria 2023 seemed quite flawless. Their only flaws were their drivers and the strategy team.

Ferrari's story is always about compromise: too unreliable / too much degradation / too slow in qualifying / engine not good enough

I can excuse them for the initial engine being off, but they've still not managed to even equal redbull after 2 engine upgrades. One team has made their first engine ever and the other has been building it from the very beginning of Formula 1.
I see this a bit differently. Being the fastest car does not mean you did everything right or the best.
It means, you did most things acceptable/good, and one important thing a lot better then the others.

Let's say, Mercedes made their entire drivetrain better that it gives them 8 tenth of advantage. Then if their chassis is 4 tenth behind, they are still 4 tenth ahead.

Ferrari when had the grey zone engine, had the fastest car, could have won the championship. Red Bull had an exceptional aero when they dominated, etc.

I do not know if it is luck to have an overall good car with one killer part, or they lack something in the company, like location, company culture, leadership, etc... why they lately always stop at around the second position...
But we also have to appreciate that they kinda consistently achieve to be around the top. Not many team is capable of doing this for decades....

i would think it is largely down to combined engineering talent. They of course have a few incredible engineers, but the cost cap has nerfed them for good. Maranello is not a place that young people from outside want to live their life, especially if they have a family. Money could have helped but the cost cap has killed that.

Fred's gamble to hire Hamilton to create a super team with Leclerc to attract engineers has also failed spectacularly. Lewis went on a 2 year lean run since his announcement at Ferrari and the current driver relationship is surely not luring anyone to the team.

The commentators of modern F1 really are rubbish. Ferrari weren’t hoping for a late safety car they were hoping for a red flag from an incident as it would have allowed them to change tyres during the pause.

David Croft and Brundle Roman extent are too long in the tooth, you see things on screen that these guys continually miss.
I agree, they missed also that Lando couldn’t go in during the first VSC lap because he had passed the pit entry when it was declared.
Too centered on the action and not enough on the bigger picture. Some TVs have a third person for this purpose during the race.
The F1TV commentators picked up all of the above pretty much instantly. And the scream a lot less, quite recommendable.

David Croft is not a 'race commentator' - he is at best a 'radio commentator' who can only say what he sees, he can't interpret. Those of whom who actually can interpret - the ex drivers - Brundle, Button, Rosberg who come into commentate once in a while, they get to talk very less because 'Crofty' is blabbering all the time. I felt F1tv's Alex Jacques is a much better 'analyst' than Croft. Nobody expects people who have no 'F1-team-insider-experience' (people who are not ex-drivers/ex-TPs/ex-engineers) to have nuanced takes on the events that transpire on track, but we expect F1 commentators to be 'somewhat knowledgable' of basic engineering and basic driving patters. Croft cannot spot the difference between 'poor traction out of the corner' vs 'driver made a mistake at the exit of the corner' , which TV audience like you or me can. That's the core problem. Netflix generation thinks Croft has 'god-level knowledge' about F1, whilst what he has are some minions in SkySport pulling 'interesting statistics' before a race weekend and sending him an email of the shortlisted stats, which he then 'inserts' into the commenatary atleast 15 times over 5 sessions.

Yes and no. A late safety car would still have been good in theory - come back out in 4th but with the field bunched up and MUCH fresher tyres, that should in principle have meant a good opportunity.

What’s weird is how slow the car was in fresh softs - seems like Charles knows why but didn’t want to say, which is even weirder.

Surprised that this is not the talking point here. On softs he didn’t put a dent on a gap to the front. While Russell closed on him quickly

I just hope that it has nothing to do with the tyre pressure raise they were forced to apply last year.

Ever since Vassuer said drivers have equal status after Monza the rumors of him being fired started.

Hamilton really wants that no. 1 status no matter what it seems

Same can be said about Leclerc - in fact all drivers want to be the no.1 driver in the team.

Not that it should be taken as a gospel, but I thought I'd share. I have been experimenting with different methods for calculating PU horsepower from the available telemetry data. And I have had all sorts of results from different methods. Some overestimate numbers and you get 1300 HP engines and some underestimate the numbers and you get 800 HP engines. Some are a little bit closer to what I would assume to be the real number (1000-1100HP).

Now through all these runs I have done in private, even though the numbers might have been different, there's always been two things that have pretty much always been consistent.

1. RBPT and Mercedes are always ranked 1-2, but the order and the gap between them varies depending on the different method I have used.
2. Ferrari and Audi are always 3-4, with the order again changing between them, however the gap is always very tight.
(Honda is always last by the way, but you don't need a data processing pipeline to tell you that)

What's particularly interesting is that I have seen the Ferrari PU more often ranked below Audi than above it, and I am still yet to find a method that gives actual tangible gains from ADUO 1 to ADUO 2 upgrade. As I said, this isn't gospel. I would assume the approximations are quite bad and not very close to reality. I personally think Audi has a very low drag car, so if I play around with drag coefficient I can bring Audi behind Ferrari. But it's honestly not that much between them, even when I do that.

With all this talk about how Ferrari has been unable to mount a challenge this year, a lot of the blame has to go to the engine department. It's a little bit disgraceful for f*cking Ferrari to build an engine that wasn't only bested by RBPT Ford on their first attempt, but they also built an engine that is barely better (if at all) than Audi. Another new-joiner in the sport.
I honestly don't understand how Ferrari messed this up so badly. Such a shame, because there was so much innovation in this car on the chassis side, especially early on in the season. The power unit has held them back big time.

Aerodynamics did turn out to be for people who can't build engines I suppose.

the rumors of fred being fired was before he said they have two number 1 drivers in Madrid, he even addressed them and joked himself last week about people saying he should have been fired already. There hasnt been rumors since then

Yeah these forums are a bit diluted sadly.
I was surprised about that soft pace too, my solution is that he had to push immediately, and because of that or simply of the car, they just got overheated quickly. Then because he had to defend, had no time to cool them, so it stayed that way till the end. It must have been an other feat to keep that place for him.

It's good to see some accountability coming from Charles instead of bringing "we" into this. Those who have been trying to justify that maneuver can stop embarrassing themselves now.
Hamilton screwed up an that's that. Expected Leclerc to just wave him past after pushing him near the track edge, but he didn't.

I'm only only embarrassed for Leclerc always taking blame when he doesn't have.
Your skewing of the facts to suit your anti-Hamilton agenda is embarrassing. Take a listen to what Charles said maybe?
Hamilton drove himself to the gravel, after pushing him to the left. I expect he expected Leclerc to wave him by. Well tough luck. He wanted to BS Verstappen in a similar way, with an even worse result.

Difference between engine and power unit.

These engines are less efficient and weaker than previous engines for three main reasons: Fuel flow reduced, fuel energy content is less and the MGUH is gone.

The previous engines were about 840bhp . MGUK was 160hp. So power units were about 1000 hp. Some say the were a bit higher.

These power units are estimated to be about 590hp to 630hp. The MGUK is 350kW. So the power unit is about 1050 to 1100hp.

1300hp is not possible with these power units .
