Good quote. I have seen others where they talk about a substantial change in “concept” for next season, so it’s probably just semantics. It can be difficult to parse what these guys are talking about sometimes when it comes to technical matters.

I think the ‘change in concept’ might be the 150mm longer car in overall length, longer gear ratios, a new rear suspension layout and the mandatory shortening of the front ‘bib’.

Very much so. I get the feeling the sidepod air inlets don't actually have too much effect on the overall flows over the car, and that the rear of the sidepods are far more important.

McLaren's sidepod inlet is not "new" in the truest sense of the word. I think it was said elsewhere, but this is a blanking panel option of the original inlet (though the interior is a bit larger to compensate for the blocked off outside portion. You can see that the split line for the front part is the same. So they can switch back and forth if they want to.
