The main issue is obviously the engine, but it looks like about 40% of the performance deficit comes from low and medium speed corners of sector 2. With a Mercedes Engine they would probably not have been better than 13-15th.

Kind of an unfair comparison, You're comparing Alonso Q1 against Gasly's Q3 run. Alot more rubber is down by then.gnocchiF1 wrote: ↑25 Sep 2026, 21:18https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HTEm2YrWQAA5A4C.png

Especially on a street track. Unlike Madrid Alonso side managed to figure out something. We haven't had a smooth race since the Dutch GP. Honestly the concern is if the team can finish the race.diffuser wrote: ↑25 Sep 2026, 22:38Kind of an unfair comparison, You're comparing Alonso Q1 against Gasly's Q3 run. This is better

What gamble? Honda was producing a top engine. It was not reasonable to expect it would turn out this way again.Jambier wrote: ↑25 Sep 2026, 10:01AMR took a big gamble with Honda. It failed.
Now, indeed they need to think quickly.
- They have Newey, good technical installation.
- There is a good chance that they will quickly do a good chassis
- But the engine won't be good
So for them is the question of 2030. Will Honda stay, commit to and do something good for 2030 ?
Who will be the driver then ? I love ALO but of course in 2030 he will be retired.
They currently are on a Toyota like trajectory, tons of money to withdraw at the end and sell the whole F1 team
In the other hand: Who can give an engine to Aston ? I only see RBPT but they have no capacity to provide a third team
The problem with that, is that it's already too late. If no-one wants to give them a PU, the team with the lowest number of teams would be forced by the FIA to supply engines to them, if they break contract with Honda. New manufacturers are exempt for two seasons, so if they did that before the 2027 season starts it would be Ferrari.Rikrikrik wrote: ↑25 Sep 2026, 00:25Honestly, I still believe that in 2027: Honda won't do anything very different from what it's doing now, and I believe that by April we'll already have information on whether Aston Martin is returning to Mercedes or securing another supplier.I think the rumors about changes will start as early in the pre-season.
IMHO, you need a 3 year freeze to prep for new regs. So I wouldn't bet on new regs before they drop the freeze. Once they drop the freeze, the you know for certain when the new regs are coming.
