It seems strange, that we've seen so much of Lotus yet they are saying that they won't have a car ready for the common launch in Valencia on Jan 30.

The idea was backed by most teams after discussion during the last day of the Motor Sport Business Forum in Monaco. Comments from new 2010 F1 entrants Lotus however, are adding fuel to the speculation that some teams may not be ready.

Lotus’ Tony Fernandes indicated that his team fully supports the initiative, but revealed that their 2010 Lotus F1 championship contender will not be ready to launch in late January.

“I won´t have a car at that time. I could come with a Matchbox car,” he joked.

Many teams will be in the final construction of their car around the time of the launch event, as they were initially setting a deadline to have the car ready for the first test in February. Thus they don’t want to lose several days of build, just to get a show car out to the event.

Many of the new teams will only have one of their new cars ready for this test, the second chassis being built up and only ready for shakedown before the first race.

Ill second those sentiments, as many teams will have the first chassis built by now, but the first chassis will be used for crash testing purposes as per F1 tradition. Going on my investigations, most teams build 4 or 5 chassis per season. Take 2009s chassis:

Brawn BGP001-01 Used for racing & pre season testing (Not used for crash testing as the Honda RA109-01 was used for this) [3 Brawn GP BGP001, 2 Honda RA109]
Red Bull RB5-01 Used for races by Vettel and all pre season testing (Red Bull do not dignify the crash testing chassis) [4 RB5s produced]
McLaren MP4/24-01 (Crash testing) [5 MP4/24s produced]
Ferarri F60 (Simmilar to Red Bull, do not certify crash chassis) [4 F60s produced]
BMW Sauber F1.09-01 (Used for crash testing) [8 F1.09s produced]
Williams FW31-01 (Used for crash testing) [4 FW31s produced]
Toyota TF109-01 (Used for crash testing) [6 TF106s Produced]
Toro Rosso STR4-01 Used for racing (Same as Red Bull for crash testing) [3 STR3s produced]
Force India VJM/02-01 Used for racing (Same as Red Bull, crash test chassis not certified officially) [4 VJM/02s Produced]

The production of a chassis can take up to 4 months, so the first moulds come off the production line in probably December, or as Mclaren did last year, November as they wanted to get some front end wind tunnel data before it got smashed up.

Id expect that most of the 01 denotation chassis will be built by now, or in the kiln at the moment. The 02 denotations will just about to be finished in their moulds, and the 03 chassis will be just be getting started in its moulds.

A team ideally needs 3 chassis to start a season, if you want to include what used to be called the T-Car.

Lotus tell me they won't be getting their chassis until the second week of Jan, so little chance of it being at the Valencia event.

Id say we are looking at their car being in action probably Test 2, 10-13th of Febuary at Jerez on that info scarbs. The teams im expecting at the test at Valencia on the 1-3rd of Febuary are McLaren, Ferarri, Red Bull, Mercedes GP, Williams, Renault, Force India, STR, Sauber & Campos-Dallara. Most teams will be shaking down Chassis 01 or 02 there, depending on their chassis numbering system.

Thats driver depending ofcourse. If Sauber dont have a driver, id say no Shakedown.

Id say that the team launch will have pretty much every team, but Lotus and USF1, Lotus for what has been said by Scarbs, and USF as they will probably want a stateside launce for maximum home press exposure.

you surely could take the crash tub for the demo ,and put on the bits you have ready
for that day ...this is more a small logistical task then anything as surely they do have all the guys hired already and no tubs ready anyways..

Crash tubs are pretty much destroyed up to that point. And utterly pointless as the crash tubs are only allowed to be at one of 13 diffrent facilities, 10 of whitch are owned by the 10 teams of the 2009 season, one at a Uni in the midlands of England, one at Lolas factory, one is at Dallaras facility in Itally. In real terms, there is only really 12 places for crash testing that are FIA approved for 2010. However, Toyota have been asked by the FIA for full use of their crash lab for one of the new teams, most probably USF1. The Midlans Uni is taking Manor/Virgin and Lotus i belive as Dallara is using there facility for the Campos car.

Lola arnt giving their lab over for a new team as if anyone drops out between now and the end of the 2010 season, they are rumored to be given the green light for the new '14th entry' that Sauber F1 used to have.

Thats the way i have read it.

Lotus F1 2010 Spec B.

Made some changes to my initial livery. Tried several ways in include the new logo in the design but none really work. Ended up adjusting the colours and stripes slightly from the original. Think it looks more modern and would be more eye catching.

I think that most observers expect Sauber to carry the Petronas branding. So it is unlikely that it will be on the Lotus.
