Lotus T127 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They should be ok in the oil dept, I'd be more worried about the fuel formulation if I was Merc.

Here's a comment from a friend who works for a lubricant company...
I don't know about how the other F1 teams work with their fuel and oil suppliers, I can only comment on the way we work with the team we support..

We have a scientist that is pretty much permanently based at the F1 factory and works day-to-day with the F1 engineers to a) understand their needs and b) advise them of what is nominally possible. Sometimes they are able to work with quite conventional fluids, and at other times novel fluid components are used in new formulations to give competitive advantage. The communication is very much a two-way process between the F1 folks and the team of scientists, engineers and technicians in our fuels and lubricants departments.

Some of the engine and gearbox technologies do require special lubricant components, especially to protect during first-fire when it's very easy to damage some of the critical mechanical parts..

We also have a small team that are on hand at every race and test, to sample and analyse the fuel and oil before and after each run. The data then gets fed back into the development model.

Finally all of the F1 fuels and oils for the team are made at the laboratory where I work and are then shipped to wherever they are needed.

Sorry to bring this post back on topic of Lotus...but, why, or should I write, how are they able to use the team Lotus F1? I thought I had read that Bernie did not allow any teams to use the term F1 in any team names. I'll have to search back but I recall Force India had to remove 'F1' from their team name.

Talking about Lotus cars, they released a model commemorating 1972:

its not called USF1 any more its USGPE

I think Renault is just Renault, but people refer to them as Renault F1 team. Not 100%

Nope, the official name for the team is,

'ING Renault F1 Team'

Though, with ING pulling out, I guess it remains, 'Renault F1 Team'

I think the teams which raced until 2008 can use F1 along with their name, thats why brawn team made their name brawn gp and USF1 was forced to change USGPE.The logo of Force India ressembled F1 logo so they were asked to change the I in the logo to small case i.

One of many... The Elise S1 was the first to get a '72 edition, but they've been doing roadcars in JPS colours for years. I think the first was probably an original Esprit.

I want to see the team do well. I don't want the lotus name been used for anything other than a quailty team fighting up there with the big guns. I have said the same for all the new teams but from them all lotus is the ones I want to be the best of the 4.

But M.Gascoyne been the team lead has filled me with doubt cause his track record isn't great and the thought of them using Fi model doesn't bow well for creating trust in your operation.

Just my opinion though and for all I know he's got a new
lease of life and pull it outta the bag.

With 2 good drivers also, although am not a big fan of JT as a driver but as a bloke he's
one of the nicest fellas on the grid along with webber. I have a lot of support for Kovi though and am glad he's still on the grid. Am just starting to fear he's going to become another nick h.

So Lotus thinks they will be ready by the second test Feb 17
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80763

quick question, do they lose whatever test days that they miss or can they conduct their own test solo on other tracks?
