Internal FIA problems, Bernie and the teams

Post

Seems like teams always need forever to decide what is the best option for next year's regulations.

Now the FIA has again proposed the re-introduction of tire changes as we have known them until 2004. The suggestion is quite remarkable as it was intended as a rule to reduce costs and speeds. Apparently the FIA failed there as these rules also threw up discussions on the safety on these regulations.

Also the knock-out quali... another idea that looks interesting but is handled with much caution.

Anyone who starts to be annoyed by the FIA? I think personally that the GPMA are correct in that way they want F1 to be controlled as a democracy instead of giving all responsibilities to one single organisation

I agree with you. If this was democracy FIA would lost elections dozen of times by now because they mess things up and than force teams and manufacturers to spend more money without taking any responsibility.

Anyway, I’m sure that switching to tyre change has only to do with requests from Ferrari. How come that cutting costs and increasing safety by reducing speed isn’t important anymore?! :^o

I hope this hypocrite organization will fell apart and that GPMA will overcome.

Well manchild I think you're quite oversimplifying the problems a little bit.

First of all there are indeed some rumours that Ferrari suggested that one tyre rule but I don't have any proof of that. What may be even more important, the public believes that Ferrari is the victim of these new rules as "they were changed to reduce their dominancy".

However, regarding the GPMA I think the matter is quite complicated. It this situation happened 15 years ago, Bernie would have stood up and sorted it all out, but in my view he seems to be playing for the money, maybe more so because he is getting old and the influence of the FIA has increased.
The disagreements between the main teams, ferrari, the FIA and Ecclestone have not done any good to any of them.

It's my belief that the GPWC was started as an initiative to put pressure on the FIA to let know they are serious, but at the moment I think they are really thinking of moving on with more self control.

I fear somehow what will happen then...

All GPMA teams were against one tyre rule when it was supported by Ferrari - Stoddy said so as spokesman for 9 teams - they are victim of their own decision.

Perhaps I'm simplifying but let’s wait and see. I also say that Red Bull didn't buy Minardi with their money but with Ferrari's money in order to get as much teams as possible in FIA&Ferrari championship. Future will tell.

Michelin suggested – FIA accepted – 9 teams voted against – Ferrari voted for and since it wasn’t unanimous what FIA suggested went into regulations.

As a fan all I want is good, safe, competitive racing. I have personal opinions on the controls racing need. On my opinion, a democracy just won't work in racing, it takes what can be described as a dictatorship to keep things running smoothly. Just look at the high profile racing types around, and compare their success against their management methods. The two very successfull series, F and NA$CAR are definitely not democracies, nor are the teams allowed to control the regulations. Same with IRL, it is controlled by just one man, Tony George. And IRL has slowly and steadily grown in fan appeal and strength.
CART, which has suffered many problems, also suffered from a changing and weak leadership and are still on the verge of failure.
So when I step back and try to look at the big picture, my opinion is that for racing, a democracy won't be effective, while a dictatorship gets the job done. I have many issues with how F1 is run, and like many, I have many ideas on ow to improve it. But to allow a democracy or the manufacturers to have more control will bring the sport into decline, and cause many more problems.
Look at Ferrari, they were allowed too much input into controlling F1, they had a five year domination, yet the sport suffered.

Dave, but that same FIA dictatorship enabled 5 year dominance of Ferrari and it intended to prolong it.

I'm not saying that there should be absolute democracy but there should be impartial governing body whose main interest must be safety before anything else. Since they are going back to tyre change that means that safety will be decreased and costs higher which is why they introduced 2005 reg in the first place.

They should resign and new people should be places there - they made mistake of magnitude that would get them sack from any company if they were employed and made such bad decision. People on top of FIA and F1 are corrupted and they must go.

What will happen when they die? Will F1 die with them? Sorry but no, everyone is replaceable.

jaslfc said it and I was just commenting his theory...

Perhaps I'm bitter because Fisichella is out of my reach and I don't have a punch bag
That small group of people in FIA really irritates me by how they make laws, put teams on trial, play jury and the judge and most of all constantly make cock-ups without facing any responsibility.

As a Renault fan I know that those several points taken by FIA penalty might cost Renault a title and no one from FIA will face responsibility for that illegal decision.

They are getting away with illegal, suspicious moves for much to long and all that happened in Japan and what they are suggesting for 2006 is so hypocrite.

In a way my bitterness is similar to bitterness experienced by GPMA mambers - enough is enough...

Well yes they have done a really good job in organising it all, but eventually it seems now that their methods are a little bit outdated.

You can simply not expect those teams to keep investing and investing in a sport that cost billions and then see tremendous amounts dissapear in the hands of Ecclestone or the FIA. There should indeed be running money, but there's plenty and after all the teams make the show, not the other way around
