Williams FW32 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes. They had something similar, but not so curved as mine and now as their.
I think they dident curve it all the way to the horizontal plane, they had some vertical plane also
I might be wrong too

I love this! =D> They are feeding extra air underneath the car through that channel to increase the downforce. No wonder they have some understeer. I also wonder if the Cossie engine has enough oomph.

BTW, does it read "Williams Hybrid"? WTF?

Brawn had it last year, this is what F1.com says about it:
An inventive horizontal splitter (2) creates a kind of venturi effect under the chassis

Williams Hybrid Power is an advert only...Williams are trying to market their flywheel hybrid system to OEM's, and F1 is a great place to advertise!

It's funny how aero concepts are shared around. McLaren are using a variation of Williams' nose splitter this year, and Williams have dropped that in favour of Brawn's cow catcher.

I'm talking about what looks like an "air channel" or inlet just behind where the curved "cow catcher" meets the flat floor

Ahh.. I see, I thought those were just ridges to direct the airflow

basically a cross plane is a perfectly balanced engine,
On a V8? really? i thought only flat engines or inline 6s were perfectly balanced, you sure of that?

I hope it's not for anything, if it means that a denser volume of metal and carbon has to be displaced upwardly and to the side, to make way for the same volume of air in that channel, it means the COG has to be moved upward.
I wouldn't trade that for a little extra air. Everything seems to be more focused on diffuser feeding nowadays, i think Williams would be going overboard with that idea.
I think it would be useful if those channels stopped short at the side-pods, emptying the air in there.
For Sure!!

I'm thinking it's filled with something very heavy, as it's a great place to put ballast.

Nico H has already reported that the Cosworth is better than the Toyota... seems like it was a shrewd decision by Williams to go for it.

ker-ching for the PR machine.

Every driver says their car/engine/supplier is better at this time of year.

Not really, some drivers keep it real.. but how much experience does Hulk have with the Toyota anyway? And in the few laps that he got last year how fresh was the motor? But it was also reported that the Toyota lump had the lowest peak power last year. He could very well be telling what he thinks is the truth.
