Hmm Rockingham. Good place for high speed wing bleed developments.
I wonder if they will have a shark fin and pitot tubes?

Just to add to the Bahrain update, I heard from an industry insider that a higher (dare I say say Red Bull-like) nose, has been investigated and might be an option.

Ross must be listening to Ringo. :)

How sure are you of this? Do you think Mercedes have abondoned the high-low concept due to inconsistencies?

Also,Im sure Brawn would design the nose knowing how much energy absorbtion it required.

Expect to see many teams have a new nosecone and posibly new rear crash structure as well for Bahrain as this is where all the front and rear crash structures are homogonised for the season. Also this is where side impact structures and chassis are also homogonised as well from this season, meaning many of the cars will have their B Spec car for arround this time next week.

The thing is that the teams can go back to their A Spec stuff as the rules allow for things to be backwards "downgradeable" as well. And going on what Red Bull found last year with 2 different noses for the second half of the season, means id expect most of the 9 teams that made it from last year to this to have a simmilar approach. Force India and Williams already have 2 different nosecones tested and ready for use, the front wings can be changed in and out of each spec nosecone tho.

The one thing id expect to be deemed legal is the McLaren sharkfin, meaning that most of the teams will have to do some catch up on this area, also meaning that teams will try and get the rear wing to stall as much as they can. But if Red Bull complain, watch McLaren complain about the exaust location on the RB6.

I agree, I don't see anything wrong with the exhaust on the Red Bull. Can't wait to see what the updates look like.

someone posted on the autosport website that red bull is in the front with ferrari 2 tenths behind, merc 3 tenths back from red bull and mclaren 4 tenths behind red bull. he said he got the info from a ferrari engineer, or someone in the know. i found that a bit surprising with the mclaren number if they are true. either way, that's really close and with the updates, i expect merc to be winning races soon, if not at the first one in bahrain.

To these people I would say that all will be revealed in good time. It is only a week to practice, one more day to qualifying and then one more day to the first race. To speculate now is pretty useless.

What all observers agree on is the closeness of the top cars and potentially Williams, Sauber and Renault.

One point that could play a big role is the resources. Ferrari and McLaren are still almost twice as strong in terms of head count as all the other teams on the grid. They should be expected to produce a stronger development pace this year.

Just as an FYI, the print edition of Autosport apparently has an article on the update that McLaren made at Barcelona. It is very similar to what is rumored for Mercedes - new floor, diffuser, sidepods, front wing, brake ducts, turning vanes and engine cover. They say that the update reduced their laptime by a second.

So, if true, its certainly possible that Merc might have something similar up their sleeve.
